Which 22lr Lever Action?

I've had a hankering for a lever gun for years and am going to finally pull the trigger on picking one up. It will just be a plinker, and possible future suppressor host. With so many options out there from Henry, Mossberg, Marlin etc etc and no real experience with levers I don't even know where to begin.

I'd like to stay under $400, if possible.
 
The Henry is a fine looking .22 lever gun. If I was a lever gun person, I'd go for one.

Now, if you can find a Winchester .22 made back when Winchester owned the company, that would do too.

Hmmmmmm.......Maybe I am a lever action person??
 
Not much of a rifleman here, but my shooting buddy has a HENRY that I shoot now and then, what a great gun, smooth action, good looking and accurate. It would be my choice.

That might be a problem there.

All .22 RF lever-actions use a tube magazine.

And it would be difficult at best to pull the loading tube out to load it with a can screwed on in the way.

I bought a Henry H001 a couple months ago and its been a really nice shooter. The only real issue i have is that the iron sights can't be lowered enough to shoot right on at short range (less than 50 yards). Not a huge deal though, just have to use a rather extreme 6 o'clock hold at those ranges.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
 
I guess it does make sense to keep the lever unsupressed and get a different more suitable host later. Going to see if I can find a Henry locally to check out.

search other threads on the issue and you will find a lot of info. Nothing against the henry and Im not trying to start a debate but you can find all of that with a search on 22 lever guns.
 
or spend $10 and get a taller front sight.

the browning 22 lever gun is a slick piece too. that short throw.......mmmmm yummy.
 
Very simple fix. Cut a piece of 1/8 brazing rod and JB Weld it to the top of the front sight. I needed to do that because I put a Skinner peep rear sight on mine. Helps with my old eyes.
 
I picked up a used Henry 001 last year. Quite possibly one of the best purchases I've made. Lots of fun and smooth action.

I will say however when this thing misfeeds, it's almost mandatory to take the sucker apart. Yikes.
 
While I have limited experience with Henry's, I would hold off and wait on a pre-cross bolt 39A. They can be found for around $400 or a little over in good condition.
 
I have a Henry. Awesome gun, accurate as all get out, good looking, VERY reliable. Action smooooth as butter. Henry all the way. I don't think I've ever heard a bad review of a Henry. Besides they're made in USA.
 
I'll be the dissenter here... Sorry, but a suppressed lever gun just seems and looks so wrong to me...
