I had a gun store clerk that kept on correcting me on what I wanted.

I asked for ".22 magnum" for my Ruger Single Six. He said, " We have no .22 magnum, just .22 WMR." So I said, "That's actually what I want, .22WMR" Then he says, "No, .22 WMR is not the same thing" So I said, "Fine, I don't want .22 Magnum, I want .22WMR" :cuss: Then he says' "No, no, no, you don't want .22WMR, it's not the same as .22 Magnum":banghead:

Finally, I took a deep breath, and said calmly:cool:, "OK, let me start over. What I meant to ask for when I first came in was .22WMR. .22WMR is what my gun shoots, I mistakenly said .22 Magnum":) (I don't even know what .22 Magnum he's talking about but I'm not about to ask because it might cause more confusion)"

Then he says finally, "Oh OK, we got some of that, you should have said that's what you wanted":p

So now that that's all over with, what .22 magnum (that is not .22WMR) would he have been talking about? I don't see it.

Were you guys actually saying, "Twenty-two double-yoo-em-ar"? Or were you saying, "Twenty-two Winchester Magnum Rimfire"?

Either way though, it is more work to say than 'twenty-two magnum'.

You should call the store back and speak to him. Ask him to order you a few boxes of .22 Magnum since they don't have it in stock. Tell him to also set aside some .22WMR of the same version/type. When it comes in, go pay him a visit.

The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, more commonly called .22 WMR, .22 Magnum, or simply .22 Mag...

I think it was a clerk who might not know all of the other names for it and decided to make you feel like the ignorant person instead of him.

Working in customer service myself (well, most people do), I can say that sometimes you just screw up. I've had some customers get very sarcastic with me when I've been a dope, and I just roll my eyes at myself for giving them the opportunity.

From a different view, I had a customer get very, very annoyed with me when I asked him if the ".32 ammo" he requested was for a revolver or semi-automatic. :uhoh:

Forget which one it was, but he had never known that ".32s" could be completely different firearms.....

:what:

One of my favorites is being in at a gun counter a day or 2 after Christmas 2007. Some guy wanted to know if they had any 7mm-08 ammo for the new rifle he had just gotten for Christmas.

The clerk had obviously never heard of the round and told the guy that all of their ammo was 2007 ammo, but they expected a new shipment of 2008 ammo about the middle of January.

Another guy had just gotten a Glock in 357 Sig and came in wanting to know if the store had any ammo. The clerk replied yes, as he walked to the display of 357 Sig ammo. He then asked the customer how much he wanted. The customer handed the guy 2 magazines and said "Fill em up".

Don't know nothing about that, but last night I trolled the ammo counter at Walmart and low and behold there were a few boxes of 9mm. I don't need any but bought a couple for a friend who's been looking desperately . I texted him "hey man, I just scored you a box of 9." That's when I realized how much we "ammo hunters" have started to sound and act like drug dealers.;)

Addendum; and I know some of you guys are going to ask, if a friend needed 9mm, why haven't I already given/sold him some of my stash? To which I answer DON"T BE RIDICULOUS...he's just a friend!

And of what business is that of yours? First Radio Shack asking for our phone number when we buy batteries, now this!

:D

At least he knew better than to throw the mags away because they were used up!

True story...friends son...not the sharpest knife in the drawer, had a flat and drove a few days on the mini spare. His dad said go to the tire store and buy a new tire. He came back an hour later and said he couldn't get the tire. His dad said why not. The kid said " I threw the old one away" and his dad said "So?" and the kid said "I thought the tires came with wheels, so l threw it away" The tire store didn't have an aluminum ($$) wheel to fit the car...

When I worked at a small gun shop guy comes in all mad wallmart sold him the wrong ammo.He tells me that he tried to load it and it wouldn't fit ,had a box of 7mm mag, his rifle was 7x57.

There is a .222 Magnum, ("two-twenty-two mag") but I think they stopped loading factory ammo for it 10+ years ago. Might be some still out there on shelves.
I actually have one in layaway right now about five hours away. I didn't want to buy it on the spot because I didn't want to deal with it on the plane. I will be picking it up soon and have located eight boxes of ammo. Come November I will be asking a deer what he or she thinks about the round and just why it may have gone obsolete.

I remember a cab driver from that family. I jumped into the back of a cab in New York. The cabbie turns around and screams, "Get out! Get out!" I said, "What's wrong?" He said, "I don't like anybody behind me when I drive!"

Afew years ago, a new gun store is opening and I stop in, talk to the OWNER, ask if he carries reloading supplies. He says yeah and points to a shelf. Primers and powder but no bullets. I ask him if he has bullets, He points to the ammunition on another shelf, I look and look but no bullets. So I ask again, can you show me where your bullets are? He looks up from reading soldier of fortune and says "are you blind, they are right there!" At this point I asked him if he knows what bullets are and it goes all bad, for him. Not one dime have I spent there....

.222 Remington Magnum

".....why it may have gone obsolete."

The .223 Remington was pretty much the death knell for the .222 Magnum, very similar performance plus the advantage of cheaper mil-surp ammo.

As an aside, the old .22 Remington Jet cartridge was sometimes referred to as a .22 Magnum in its early days, but I doubt if the OP's LGS would have had any of that in stock.
