And she's a beaut. It's a refurb though, but the action, trigger group and dust cover are all original/matching. The stock, bolt and mag are forced match. The bore is minty and it is in excellent condition, a good find. I was just in the store looking for rings, but couldn't turn down an early Russian SKS.

I'm debating whether I should shoot it or not, as I know 49's, even in refurbished condition, are sought after and rare.

Congrats! Nice wood on that one.

I would shoot it. It's already mis-matched, and it's probably not unfired. A few (or even more than a few) rounds down range are not going to drastically alter the value.

I have no illusions that my Romanian is the best gun ever or anything, but I like it a lot for what it is. Enjoy!

I've got two just like it. Would get rid of my AK's before I parted with them. They are nice solid guns. I think that when they were $149.99 a copy, thye were very under appreciated. Now, when te Russians are harder to get, people are taking a second look.

It was unclear that they were anywhere near 2X better than the Chinese that were everywhere for ~$75 at the time.

Awesome rifle! Congrats.

I hope you didn't get hurt too bad on it.

It is a refurb... IMO it won't really hurt the value to shoot and enjoy it.
Will

I've got a 54 Russian SKS with ALL matching numbers, and unfired except from factory I guess. Sweet gun.

I don't know what they cost in Canada, but at $600+/-100 those are OVER-appreciated in USA.

Marstar is selling Chinese SKS's and 1,440 rounds of surplus ammo, $360.00 for both. Just the rifle alone sells for about that in the US. Stupid US laws about importation of Chinese guns.

I actually sold my AK for stupid money in the panic, just didn't like it that much. I prefer my SKS rifles that I will never part with.

Here's my Russian 54.........Looks like it came from the Tula factory last week.

A Russian SKS is a safe queen?

I got one for $150 off a gun forum in Jan 1997.

In 16.5 years I have not shot mine either, but not because it is valuable.
I just haven't got around to it yet.

The days of $150 SKS's are long gone.

nice gun clark i got a 51 tula also with laminated stock and not a safe queen. i started reloading this round for this gun because i just could not shoot anymore steel in it. the thing has had enough of that crap shot out of it so it's going to have a good life from now on. if i buy more than 1 of the same gun they are the shisnit :D
