I sometimes wear my NRA hat but generally I wear a skull cap to keep my hair from affecting my eyes while I'm shooting.

Black high crown Baseball cap with the sides of the bill bent down to shade sun from the sides.
Same kind I have worn for 50+ years.

(No, before the smart jokes start, not the same one.)

I buy a new one when they get whiter with sweat salt then my old underwear.

(I buy new white underwear when they start to match my old salt white, black baseball cap.) :D

A black BDU cap. Tan if it's a hot day.
Sturdy, $8 for actual surplus ($45 for a GAP hat? No, thanks.), comfortable. I tend to wear it a size larger than a soldier would (to fit hair), so the brim's low enough that it really does stop shells from falling onto my face.
Also, there are literally zero pictures of me above drinking age without the hat, and the majority of my friends have never seen beneath it.

If I ever buy a Thomson, then I'll get a fedora to go with it.

Generally a ball cap. Couple times I have worn my straw Stetson Open Road. If I were shooting in the out-of-doors when it was really cold, it would be my somewhat misshapen felt Open Road. Or my bizzare rabbit lined old-school-aviator-helmet-style hat.

While I do feel that every hat should serve a legitimate purpose, I like to have options to fill said purposes.

Baseball cap with the brim slightly creased and pointed in the right direction to cut down on sun glare.

I didn't vote because it varies too much to make just one choice. If I'm shooting at a covered range I generally don't wear a hat at all because it just gets in the way of my hearing protection. If, however it's hot enough that I'm sweating I have developed the habit in the last few years of tying a bandana or similar cloth in a sweatband/do rag configuration to keep the sweat out of my eyes.

If I'm not under a covered area then I almost always wear either a rag, Tilley hat or a baseball cap. I have very little hair left on top and without a cover my scalp sunburns quickly.

Union Kepi with the proper badging of The 139th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment , Company C

The regiment and company my Great, great, great Grandfather served in from 2nd Bull Run through Appomattox.

I typically wear a straw hat, with a 4" brim and a 3 1/2" crown. It provides shade for my eyes, head and shoulders. I crease them like a fedora.
