204 Ruger pics, wow! Not often you have to follow the blood trail to find a head.
Did you get to look at the Savage Walking Varminter before deciding on the Ruger? I know you wrote you had some initial problems with the Ruger so wondering if you'd still get the Ruger or opt for the Savage?
Here is a good review on YouTube from a Tennessee guy: http://youtu.be/RsXIN_amcUQ titled Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter in 17 Hornet - Gunblast.com.
He also reviews the Ruger 77/17: http://youtu.be/JZQkCV-C_2g titled Ruger Model 77/17 VHZ 17 Hornet Bolt-Action Rifle - Gunblast.com
Wow! Some head shot. How far was that shot?
Are those the factory rings that come with it? What size scope objective lens? Just wondering how big a bell the factory rings will accommodate.
Been watching them for months waiting to find a deal. I can only imagine what my 204 Ruger would...
I prefer the CMMG at Brownell's. It's extremely reliable and unlike other conversion kits it uses the same size magazine as the standard AR so you get the same look and feel which is important for easy handling when you have the real magazines.
I do NOT fire it in my Colt H-Bar target. The...
Final update on the Remington 700 in .223 Remington: After two tries they got it right. I'm now extremely pleased with my choice of the Remington 700. Shoos 1/2" moa at 100 yards with my generic .223 hand load. I haven't worked up a load for this particular rifle but I'm so pleased with the...
Update on the Remington 700. First, the customer service reps were extremely nice and helpful. They sent a shipping label and gun box lightening fast. Sending the rifle to them was as easy as dropping it in the box and putting their shipping label on it. I give 5 stars to the customer...
I took a non-primered/powdered case with a properly seated projectile and colored it with a black marker and chambered it and was careful to guide it out of the chamber upon extraction. It showed very clearly the score mark and the general area it's coming from. I ran a Q-Tip over the general...
I have a Remington 700 .223 Rem. with less than 50 rounds through. The spent cases have a scratch that runs the entire length of the case from the rim to the shoulder. Will this go away over time or do I need to lightly file near the feed ramp? The scratch is more than just the chamber mark...
I like the recoil because if I can feel the punch on my end I know that whatever I hit is getting punched even harder on the business end. That's fun at the range or hunting, but when it comes to self-defense I prefer a firearm that allows fast follow-up shots. That doesn't mean I have to...
Thanks to everyone that's replied. I'll change the boxes I store my brass in, marker colors I mark with and be more selective with my headstamps and all will be well. Thanks again!
I appreciate the info. I like the idea of the engraver since it will never come off in the tumbler and the striping seems like something to consider. The Dykem steel blue, is that the same as using cold blue?
I've been reading TheHighRoad.org for a while and have founds lots of great info so I finally joined so I can post and hopefully add my two cents from time to time.
Background: I shoot several different .223 Rem rifles. I use full-length die for general purpose fun in the AR and neck-sizer...
