A Boy and a Trophy Bear

Yes, it was gutted before any of these pics. We did not put it on a scale, but I am confident it was 500lb live. It was shot with a 270 using a 150gr round nose bullet.

A Boy and a Trophy Bear

I started out the day taking my daughter out to shoot my deer under the Oregon Mentor program. We hiked to a rocky knob over looking a drainage where deer frequently travel. We saw a half dozen does and fawns, but nothing with horns. I received a text message from a hunting buddy...

    Nosler Ballistic Tips, Noticeable Changes

I stole the picture from another site. I have used different methods from a belt sander to a dremel with a cut off wheel. The best way in my opinion is to place them in a media like epoxy(low strength) and place them in an end mill. Then chip the epoxy away and you have a nice sectioned...

    Nosler Ballistic Tips, Noticeable Changes

First of all, I am not trying to start a bullet war just wanting to point out some noticeable changes to the Nosler Ballistic Tip and some of my observations. When the Nosler Ballistic tip came out and up until recent times they were known as a quick killer, but many complained they were...

    Which COC head???

Thanks for the replies. Woody from Magnus has been a tremendous help even though I am not using his heads. His video and posts on another site were the ticket. I will be switching in the future to the Snuffer SS just do to the support I got from him on someone else's product. Below is a link to...

    Which COC head???

Ok, I purchased a double sided diamond stone the other day and went to work on some Montecs. I started with 600 grit, then went to 1200, finished with a few passes on the strop with yellow stone on it....the results. The Montec's now shave hair very easily, I am impressed. I don't know why...

    Which COC head???

Thanks for the info. I am going to try the diamond stone method that is on youtube for the Snuffer SS heads. My wet/dry sand paper and stropping method proved effective this weekend. My Dad shot a small buck at 20 yards uphill in the chest and the arrow exited the rear ham. The broadhead did...

    Which COC head???

A few years ago I replaced the no longer made 125gr Rocky Mny Ironhead (sad to see that head go) with a bunch of 125gr Montecs. I have killed a bear and a deer with the Montecs and they have performed well, I really like the one piece cut on contact design. My only issue is I can not sharpen...

Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS or Kimber 8400 Montana

I am looking for a solid, all weather 30-06 and have narrowed my search to the Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS or Kimber Montana 8400. I have handled the Winchester a little and it feels a little thick in the stock but not horrible. I have yet to get my hands on the Kimber and may have to...

    270 powder question?

RL22 and H4831 are very good powders for the .270, I would definatly start with there first. Varget is a little on the fast side for teh .270 IMHO.
