I've Been Away For A While

That's the lock release lever. Which, as it happens, also has a lanyard hole. Here's my original Swede 92 with that same lock.

I've Been Away For A While

The Super Swede's lock release is on the tail end of the handle. Also true of the Swede 92 and the Nordic T8. It's a very robust lock. (Also found on their newer production knives.)

I've Been Away For A While

Well, I never really tried to have a "collection," it just kind of happened as I explored the world of personal cutlery and tested stuff. I bought one just to see what I was missing. Made a salad with it. Wad totally impressed. Went back to the store and bought the remaining stock. Total...

I've Been Away For A While

For comfort and handling the top piece ("Super Swede") offers the best grip. The middle one ("Big Swede") is surprisingly good for grip and control. You'd think that lock release would get in the way, but it really doesn't. The bottom one ("Little Swede") isn't too bad, but the handle is a...

I've Been Away For A While

Thought maybe I'd offer a little something different. A few Swedish pieces.

What am I going to do with this ?

If I had the skills, I might try for a camping style knife. Possibly a Leuku pattern.

    Machete

Looks nice. How's the steel on that piece?

    Thinking about a rat 1

I have a couple of the AUS-8 Rat 1 knives. Nice heft. Decent ergos. Good edge. My problem is that they're too stiff for me to open with a thumb. Anyone know how to gently loosen that pivot without screwing up things like alignment?

    Okay, that's downright funny.

    Gerber folding machete

I may be off base, but that strikes me as more of a folding Bowie. No, it doesn't have the typical Bowie profile, but the size class seems about right.

RIP Rob Davidson - Rocket Knives

I mourn these guys, even the ones I don't know -- including some I've never heard of in my ignorance -- because they take with them a certain intellectual wealth that can't really be passed on. You can teach a skill, but teaching judgment is a whole lot harder. I'm nowhere near being in the...

    Knives: Tools or Weapons?

I'm with hso on this one. Mostly I carry tools. However, when I do my daily load-out, I take a moment to consider the various uses of the blades I carry on my person. Yes, there's always one that could serve as a weapon. But that's not why I carry it.

    Picked up two knives today

I've picked up an old beater from the "bargain box" at a pawn shop. $10. It's an old, very well used, very sharp, EKA / Normark Super Swede. Over the last seven years or so its become one of my favorite and most reliable carries.

    More SAK tips/tricks from Immler

Felix has also written a Swiss Army Knife book. It has some cool stuff in it, but it kind of relies on videos to fill in the blanks. And the book, last I looked, was not available on Kindle. I guess I need to find a way to copy his videos to my Kindle. And maybe I can get a scan of the book.
