How to stop a big animal (bear or moose)?

I grew up in South Central Alaska, our camp (bear) gun was a short barrel 870 with extended mag. Like someone said above, just make it rain. Also, screaming like a little girl might help, I'm sure that's what I'd do if I was presented with that situation. Best bet? Get one of those little...

Speaking of VP, NEW LINGO, Moosegun...

I used a 7mm Rem Mag. Filled the freezers with a moose and two caribou every year. Alaskan native, born and bred!

Do people like this make you nervous??

Wow, I really hope a lot of these comments are joking or sarcastic. If you don't want him holding it, then don't give it to him. He didn't pull the trigger, didn't sweep you etc...what's the problem? It's silly to get upset at him for doing something he doesn't know you don't appreciate...

Turns out that non-firearms weapon law is actually quite liberal in South Korea

Spent a year and a half in S. Korea with the US Army (2000-2001). The police there are a bunch of young kids with these 4' long butt whoopin sticks. Watched a buddy of mine catch the wrong end of those after a "discussion" with an old drunk Korean guy. I'll just take one of those if I ever go...

    84-year-old man wounds intruder

+1 on shooting down imho. Face or gut shot, through the door= rule 4 violation. At least by shooting down, he limited the trajectory.

armed robbery Vs cop in store

I think that's just from the black and white video, it seems much more directly lit in the back office. Either way, the guy moves really well. I hope I'm never in that kind of position, but if I am, that i have the testicular fortitude to stop the threat like he did.

    Gun Related STUPID Movie Mistakes

My wife gets upset with me when I point out all the stuff. Bad Boys 2 wasn't *to* bad for gun play. My pet peeve is in the T.V. show LOST. They rack the slide on everything way to much!

30-30 or 308 for emergency bear gun

Our camp/bear gun (grew up in BFE Alaska) was always a 12 gauge with an extended magazine. I think my dad had it loaded with alternating slugs and 00 buck. Logic was at bear range, you want lots of lead and if needed you're going to want it RTFN. If I had to choose though, I'd take the...

Fire Mission - Washington Post Poll

Clicked as hard as I could. Started reading some of the comments and just laughed. I lived in the DC metro for awhile, specifically PG county in MD. I think that ghetto area is in part a product of the "gun control" laws.

Your tales of woe and laughter with guns.

Post fathers day misty eye'dness (yesterday was my first fathers day!) I was 9 years old, my first time out hunting with my Dad and the guys. Someone had just spotted this little suitcase whitetail doe standing broadside on the side of a hill maybe 70 yards off. It's my turn for a shot so I...

    Unknown (mostly) rifle question

Thank you all for your help. I think Strongbads answer finished off what I needed to know along with 308 and brownings input. Thanks to Semmerling and Blkbrd for the effort. (found on Richard's Microfit) Mauser 98 Commercial - Long Action - Large Ring (7-13/16" Between Lug Holes, 1-3/8"...
