Opinions on the perfect nightstand handgun.

My bedside gun is the same as my carry gun, an H&K P30SK-V3. Why not keep the same operation for the same circumstances. I have a P30SK-LEM trigger gun and I'm slowly learning to accept it.

What's your preferred every day carry?

For every day carry, I prefer an H&K P30SK with the V3 trigger (DA/SA). But, I have a P30SK with the LEM trigger and am warming to it.

    624 3” vs 625 MTN .45 Colt?

I'm a big fan of large caliber N-frame S&W revolvers. I do have a 3" Lew Horton Model 624 along with a 4" Model 624 and a 4", 6", and an 8-3/8" Model 25-5 revolvers. The 3" Lew Horton is a bit snappy to shoot. But, everyone has their different threshold as to what firearm recoil is acceptable or...

    Powder for Multiple Cartridges

First, there ar lots of good powders out there that will give your desired performance in a number of cartridges. First, I like True Blue in my 9x19, ammunitioin. It meters well and gives the performance that I am looking for. Some other powder may perform as well. I use alot of Unique and...

    New Blue Python BROKE! ugghh

With new gun, that just should not happen. Shame on the manufacturer for shipping a shoddy product. I'm not saying a poorly made gun might slip through the cracks once in a while but it should be the exception, not the rule. This would make me scrap the crappy magazines and send the pistol...

    New Blue Python BROKE! ugghh

Note, at least with the current manufature Colt Python and Anaconda, there is a locking set screw in the rear site. If it has not been tightened appropriated, the rear site will be loose. It is a kind of a pain in the ass to adjust as you have to loosen the screw, adjust the site and then lock...

    637 vs LCR

I have a S&W Model 437, the "blued version" of the Model 637 and a couple SP101's. I do not have any experience with the LCR. Yes, the SP101's are heavier than the Model 437. Something to consider. My SP101's are chambered in 327 Fed Mag and 9x19., But, I find my Model 437 is uncomfortable to...

Stopped Cleaning your Gun! I did - You Too?

When I cean a gun depends... For my self defense guns, I clean them after every use/practice session. If I'm being looked at after a shootiung event, I want to make sure the gun has been un-fired if I actually did not fire it. If I'm shooting at the range or the back yard and I plan to shoot...

    RCBS cracked at top??

Not all aluminum alloys are weldable. I make welded aluminum structures alot. Most I use is 6061 alloy and it welds easily with the proper tig machine. For the OP, depending on the location of the crack, I drill a small hole at the end of the crack to reduce the stress concentration of the...

    S&W 14-4 (trash or treasure $980)

The Model 14 with any barrel length is a sweet shooting gun especially with 38 wadcutter target ammunition. Besides the 8-3/8" and 6" Model 14's, I have a 4" and 2" Model 15. All four are 38 Special chamberings and are fun to shoot on a lazy afternoon of shooting on a Saturday afternoon. Enjoy.

What would make you get rid of a gun that had nothing wrong with it? (Kind of a random ramble)

If the gun shoots and functions fine, I keep it. I may want to shoot it in the future and may not be able to replace it. If the gun has some function or reliability issues, I've sent it down the road. That has happened only with one gun, a Springfield P9C sub compact in 40 S&W. It would hit...

    S&W 14-4 (trash or treasure $980)

A single data point, I bought an 8-3/8" Model 14-3 for $725 back in 2017. The gun shoots well but the bluing has some rough spots in it.

    Nice looking revolver.

    Colt Series 80, Government .380

My mistake, "sometimers disease" is taking hold. Yes, the Colt 1903 and Colt 1908 are blow back actions. The size and weight if the pistol helps reduce the felt recoil.

    Colt Series 80, Government .380

Both the PPK and the Beretta M84 are heavy and/or large for a 380 ACP. I find the M84 comfortable to shoot but the PPK’s recoil is a bit snappy in 380 ACP. The PPK is heavy and in 380, recoil is heavy. But, I like its DA/SA capability. 32 ACP are more comfortable to shoot in the PP platform...
