    Most common ammo in US

Same thing happened to me in the U.P. of Michigan many years ago during gun deer hunting season. Had a '94 Winchester in .32 Winchester Special and only found a box after driving well over 100 miles and blowing an entire afternoon going for store to store in one little town after another. Have...

    Pistol Reliability

Not lint, but in a similar vein, a buddy of mine----who recently retired as a police department armorer----related an incident wherein he found a pocket carried S&W 642 revolver jammed because of peanuts caught in the mechanism; he further opined that the specific incident involved a regular...

N Y Times Opinion: It's Too Late to Ban Assault Weapons

A surprisingly honest and candid opinion piece from an unexpected source. Not to say that it will do anything to stop efforts to make firearm ownership as difficult and as painful as possible... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/09/opinion/ar15-assault-weapon-ban.html Opinion It’s Too Late to...

Browning S-A .22 failure to feed issue

jmorris.....sometimes when the "fail to feed" occurs, the bolt will close on an empty chamber, not picking up the cartridge-----yet at other times, I've had the bolt not close----it is held back to the rear and doesn't close on the chamber and, of course, since the bolt isn't closing, it is not...

Browning S-A .22 failure to feed issue

Thanks Rudolph31. An ancillary question----if the magazine tube spring is either too long or too short, can it be adjusted? Or just leave it as is?

Browning S-A .22 failure to feed issue

I have a Browning semi-auto .22 which is, as most of you are aware, tube fed. I've been having a problem with the last 1 or 2 rounds in the tube magazine (i.e., the 10th &/or 11th round) not wanting to feed properly: Sometimes the bolt closes and, in so doing, will fail to feed the last 1 or...

    Reloading .44 Magnum: JSPs - .429 or .431?

When I occasionally use them for plinking-target shooting, I most commonly use either H. Universal or HP-38----for "full house" loads, I use 2400.

    Reloading .44 Magnum: JSPs - .429 or .431?

I occasionally reload . 44 magnum using 240 grain jacketed soft points bullet. In the past, I've used Zero bullets from Powder Valley, .429 diameter, however, they are currently out of stock at PV. When I go to the Zero website, they redirect me to their retail distributor, Roze...

Best 1911 under 1500 and why

My most accurate 1911 is a S&W Performance Center 5" with adjustable rear (target) sights---it shoots like a laser. A close second on my list would be my Dan Wesson Pointman-PM-7. The S&W PC1911 can be had new for about $1250-$1300----the Dan Wesson PM-7 for about $1350-$1450.

    school me on copper fouling

I'd say that regular Hoppe's #9, while a wonderfully effective powder solvent, is not effective in removing copper. Hoppe's Bench Rest Copper Remover-----now that is excellent at removing Cu fowling.

John C. Gar - uh, umm.

Well, several years back I had the opportunity to meet John Garand's daughter-in-law-----Kathy Garand-----and she pronounced it Gar'---and.

    Seafoam

About the best general gun cleaner I've come across is just plain old Xylene-----and at about $12-15/gallon, it is much, much, cheaper on a per ounce basis than Sea Foam.

    Revolvers are Old Fashioned

Revolvers really aren't old or passe, they're just different. I like to think of the difference between a revolver and a semi-auto as somewhat equivalent to the difference between a manual and an automatic transmission in a vehicle----different mechanisms, however, if one knows what they are...

    Steel cased Ammo?

Frequently, steel cased ammo will also have a steel bullet, the same with a copper coating or copper wash over the top of it; this tends to cause greater barrel wear. The economic cost of this significantly greater barrel wear is frequently---but not always----offset by the cheaper cost of the...
