how to refinish an 870 police walnut forearm?

Hi all, I just received my replacement walnut forearm for the 870P from Remington. Unfortunately, the new forearm is finished somwhat lighter in color than my original forearm, and it doesn't match the stock too well. What would you suggest I use to refinish it a bit darker? This is the...

870 Police fore-end tube assembly same as standard?

Hi all, I accidentally bent the action bars on the fore-end tube assembly while trying to take the fore-end off. This is on an 870 Police model (blued, not parkerized). I am looking to purchase a new blued fore-end tube assembly from Brownells. Does anyone know if the standard fore-end tube...

    Remington 870 issues... help?

OK, I was able to "cold form" the action bars back to parallel and even, and I reassembled the shotgun. The action is now smoother. Chris

    Remington 870 issues... help?

Thanks for the reply, Lee. How would you recommend fixing the bent action bar? I think the right side one is the one that's bent because it looks like it's not parallel with the fore-end tube. Can we simply bend it back straight? Chris

    Remington 870 issues... help?

Hi all, I went to my local gunsmith yesterday to have him switch out the forearm on my 870P. I was replacing the walnut forearm with a Hogue one. The nut was so tight, he had to put the forearm in a vise and turn it using the nut wrench. Well... he ended up cracking the walnut forearm...

Remington 1100 question... do me a favor?

Hi all, To anyone who owns a recently-manufactured Remington 1100 Sporting 12 or 20 gauge... can you do me a favor? I'd like to know if there's any way possible to change the cast of the stock by putting homemade shims between the stock and receiver similar to how you can with an 870. I...

Modifying cast in semi-autos (beyond the shims and spacers)

Anyone else have experience modifying the cast in a Remington 1100? I'd really like to be able to angle the stock a little bit, rather than using an adjustable butt plate, etc. Thanks! Chris

Modifying cast in semi-autos (beyond the shims and spacers)

Thanks, Dave. I've done that on my 870, and it works like a charm! Hey sm... I know you have a lot of experience with 1100's. If you read this, have you ever tried doing the same thing with an 1100? How did you do it, what was involved, and how were the results? Thanks! Chris

Modifying cast in semi-autos (beyond the shims and spacers)

Thanks for the info, Pete. I actually need to bend/slant the entire stock out more for more cast-off. I'm 6'2" tall with wide shoulders. I find the factory cast-off on Beretta sporting O/U's is almost right for me. But the shims on semi-autos don't come close. Chris

Modifying cast in semi-autos (beyond the shims and spacers)

Hi all, I'm not talking about the shim and spacers that gun makers are touting as great inventions. They only let you set cast-off to a single, non-adjustable, very tiny bit of cast... usually 1/8th of an inch at the end of the stock. I'm interested in getting a semi-auto for skeet and...

best way to add weight to Remington 1100?

Hi all, I am considering adding some weight to my Remington 1100 that I use to shoot skeet. What do you suggest I add inside the magazine tube and inside the stock hole? I was thinking maybe some rolls of quarters? What have other people used, and how do you secure them so they don't move...

    Shotshell and choke questions

Hi TFin04, 1. The difference between game loads and target loads is usually just how much powder is in each shell. 12 gauge game loads are typically 3 or 3-1/4 DRAM, whereas 12 gauge target loads are usually 2-3/4 DRAM. Also, target loads are usually only 7.5, 8, 8.5, or 9 size lead shot...
