What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

It's mostly wood, painted black. There are 3/4" MDF running up the wall and forward under the countertop, and 2x4s as braces. The counter wall supports were all put up on the wall, and i used super heavy duty toggle bolts and lag bolts to attach the MDF/2x4 supports to the wall. Everything got...

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

Thanks. It was my 4th bench made for reloading, and I had learned quite a bit from previous mistakes. The bench is now so sturdy that my house creeks when I resize 223. :D Having no floor braces makes sweeping the floor a breeze too -- and with little ones crawling around, lead shavings or...

I did something very similar with my setup, used bicycle water bottle holders to hold 1L SmartWater bottles. The press on the left has been replaced by a Dillon 650, and I'm using the 'cut-open-rifle-case' trick to catch primers into the tube.

I made a shavings shield for my possum hollow case trimmer.

Purple Drank Adaptor. Allows you to mix red and blue koolaid. Bottom end is 3/8-24 nut, top is 1/4-20. Bolts to the top of a Dillon 650 Pivot Pin and allows the use of a Lee case feeder and collator to be attached. . The aluminum washer allows me to bend it like a lock washer to get the...

My broke-status brass marking method: stick, two rubber bands, and permanent marker. Pick up the bullet-end of the case, place it against the board with the marker tip in the rim and twist. Takes 1-2 seconds per case.

    Lee Deluxe Auto-Disk Powder Measure

On my pull-chain press, I switched mine ProAutoDisk to a spring return because I was sick of the chain breaking and the chain lever not having enough 'throw' for the adujstable charge bar. Pics of both chain and spring setups, as well as conversion instructions and parts, listed here...

    Best 9mm for USPSA/IPSC

125gr LRN with 3.9-4.0 (smack dab in the middle really) HP38 (same as win321.) at 1.125" and LWD barrel -- sounds identical to arkieron's load. Functions flawlessly, but my 17 came with a different rod/spring so I'm not 100% sure what spring it is.

    Info on LEE PROGRESSIVE 1000

Don't get me wrong again, I love my Pro 1000 -- it just has picky issues that could/would frustrate a first time reloader. I keep a brush, a bent paperclip (for the primer tray,) a tweezers (to pick up the wayward primer,) a microfiber towel, a flashlight and some synthetic motor all handy...

    Info on LEE PROGRESSIVE 1000

Evan Price, I completely agree. There are definitely things you can do to mitigate those issues -- but not stuff I would encourage a first-time reloading to get frustrated with on a first time out. I still love my Pro and hope to get another one for loading 223 eventually. I actually like that...

First attempt to seat a bullet: "Lee Anniv. Kit".

If you're loading a necked case, then your Lee bullet seating die is most likely not also a crimp die -- but I've also not loaded a .303 either so hopefully someone will have a better answer for you.

    Saving my brass

I simply mark my brass all the way around. It allows me to pick up all my brass afterwards and knows it was mine. I lose some over the firing line every time, but this method also works in separating my brass from others at IDPA, Steel Challenge, etc To do this, I hold a sharpie on the the...

First attempt to seat a bullet: "Lee Anniv. Kit".

Are you planning on crimping the case with the bullet seating die or post crimping with a separate crimping (Factory Crimp) die? What caliber? What works well for me is to have no case in the shell holder, raise the ram. For crimp, screw the die in all the way until it just touches the shell...

    Info on LEE PROGRESSIVE 1000

I found that I eliminated most of the quirkiness of my Pro 1000 simply by using Magtech primers. For whatever reason, they just feed more consistently, don't go in sideways and seat flush more often. Out of 800 rounds per sitting, I'll only get one in sideways, as to CCIs where I'll get 15-20...
