Carry permit is normally a 90-day wait. UNLESS, I am told, you are female, sometimes it will be expedited.
Greenville is a nice Southern town with a large carpetbagger population so you won't be too out of place. If you come to Greenville make sure you get a house on the East side of town. I...
I'm mostly a rifle guy but I think SAA-style revolvers are super. I don't need a super nice one, basically one that goes bang everytime and I wouldn't feel guilty about slogging through the swamp with it. (We have a lot of those in VT).
Basically need an inexpensive one. What make should I...
I concur with the above--if the Mauser is otherwise unaltered PLEASE leave it be as it is much more valuable and historical that way. There are also other, non-permanent iron sights options available if the originals are tough on your eyes.
Good on you! I only have one "serious" rifle and that is the SKS. I would like others but it does just fine for now. I have a lot more rounds through mine than most people and it shoots great.
We've always had them more or less because we've always needed them. Although I think reality is often different, Southerners like to think of themselves as independent and self-reliant and guns are a way to exercise that attitude.
That and we like loud, shiny objects...like trucks...bass...
I believe there is a 1000yd range in the Charlotte area. I am near Avenger29 in Greenville county. We have the Greenville Gun Club and I believe they go out to 600 yds.
The South is pretty gun friendly but once you get away from the larger cities like Charlotte it is not so much a sport as a...
I'm sitting on top of a wooded knoll in the Southeast looking across a pasture. 100 yds away a coyote walks the treeline. I line up the mojo sights on my 24/47, put some pressure the Huber match triiger and send a lead tip through his heart.
That would be a good day.
SKS's were produced by many countries in dozens of factories. Accuracy varies widely.
My understanding is that the Yugo 59/66 models are the most consistent in quality.
I have one as well and it is about a 2MOA rifle. it will do anything an AR will do out to about 300 yds.
Lots of good info here.
Only thing I will add is that the SKS is a GREAT $200 rifle and some are quite accurate. All of its shortcomings can be remedied with aftermarket parts but IMHO that is a waste of time and you may never be quite happy.
If you need a >200 yds lead hose then get a...
Same type of story here in upstate SC. Guy I know was walking his dog just outside the suburbs and came up on a cougar/panther camped out by a haystack not but a few feet away. No question on ID because his GSD was right there for size comparison and the cat was bigger than the dawg. Sometimes...
