Why are the employees at the LGS/Range armed?

From any owners or employees who have worked in this sort of job and OC'd, I am interested in what level of training was required/recommended and whether issues like liability and decision making were covered in talks with mgmt. While arming bank guards and armored cars may have a similar...

What is the best sharpener for knives and scissors

And comes with a dvd illustrating how to sharpen everything from scissors to veggie peelers, etc. Not all of which is intuitive. I would highly recommend it as well. Even if the guy gets into freehand (which it can also do) or a Worksharp (next step up imo) it's invaluable for quick touchups...

    Good .22 pistol?

I'd go with the lcr if the trigger pull isn't an issue. I wish I'd gotten in quality reps as a young kid with a nice DAO revolver.

    SP101 - front sight recommendations

Disliked the standard dot and the hi viz fiber optic. Both sacrificed precision (and not for speed) across the board and also skewed ranged fire. Not acceptable. My LCRs both sport a factory site painted orange over a white basecoat. One has CT laser grips which I do recommend. Both are among...

    Kind of dull

As cliff pointed out somewhere once, the factory edge may also involve an excessive amount of fatigued metal due to being ground out quickly on a belt sander or wheel. Even if it is the perfect angle/symmetrical, until the fatigued metal is removed the steel may not perform (in terms of edge...

    Kind of dull

That's a good start. He has also written about it on his forum if you need more.

Claude Werner has a new blog

I should add that his private full and half day lessons are very reasonably priced.

    Cleaning a Whetstone

Great post Large rubber pencil erasers are a good "in the field" option that can work for ceramics in a pinch. Simply rub vigorously until it starts cutting metal again.

A Very Good Read on Training by Claude Werner

15 seconds per string of 5 shots (3 seconds max between shots) 4 total strings 60 seconds total live fire time not counting down time between strings of fire

Claude Werner has a new blog

Glad to see his stuff discussed and complimented here, he's one of my go-to recommendations for training when people ask.

Google cliff stamp's method of rough shaping before finishing the edge. Great way to save a lot of time.

    SD knives

I really like that swick. Looks like a more versatile knife than the tdk (which is pretty great for the intended purpose, i believe). I keep a shivworks clinch pick and/or spyderco p'kal, one or usually both, all the time.

What am I missing in this 'training'? 'drills'?

I might give them a taste of longer ranges at the end and less focus on reloads. Statistically per a convo I had yesterday with Claude Werner there is slim chance of reloading for most civilian defensive shootings. Sorry if I missed any dry fire but if you don't have any it might be a good...

    Dot Torture Drill

Fair enough and you can definitely do it if it suits you - from my reading (p-f) and experience though the best progression is just increasing distance. I wouldn't say someone doing a time element was wrong but I do not really see the point when there are available drills that are so much more...

Handgun tactics. Why I am intentionally passive in classes.

These terms you use like innocent, and so on, don't really carry legal weight to my knowledge. That is not for you to decide. Someone can hinder your defense by clutching your weapon bearing hand, or standing between you and your target screaming... This does not, according to my thinking or...
