    Places to shoot in VA

Check out the Airfield Shooting Club in Wakefield. It's a least an hour away from Virginia Beach, but with the Virginia Beach Rifle & Pistol Club having lost its range in 2005, and with C2 raising their rates through the roof, it's probably your best option if you want to shoot outside...

    Browning Buck Mark Carbine

And how is that a bad thing? I have a Buckmark carbine, and it's no less accurate or reliable than a 10/22. It is, however, lighter and more ergonomic when shooting off hand. If I could only own one .22 rifle, the Buckmark might not be it, but it has its place and it's very nice little rifle.

    Bought an Ishapore Enfield 2A

That is my own work. Parkerizing is very easy to do, but it is equipment intensive.

    Bought an Ishapore Enfield 2A

I bought an Enfield 2A recently, too. Cosmetically it was a real mess when it arrived. I've since re-parkerized it and it turned out to be a sharp looking rifle. I've only fired enough to say that it groups reasonably well. Click to embiggen:

    New Stainless Ruger Factory Folder

My friend's AC556 has the same stock. It's really a very clever design. Good find!

Anybody seen a: The Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit

I believe the .460 bullets are seated slightly deeper than .45 bullets so it works out to the same OAL and the same mags. I don't shoot mine that often. I only recently had it threaded, so now that it's suppressed it'll probably see more range time. .45 silencers are not known for the...

Anybody seen a: The Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit

The .460 upper will work with any .45 1911 lower. I haven't seen the new factory collapsible stock in person, and I remain skeptical. It looks exactly like a Feather carbine stock, which is as flimsy as you could possibly imagine.

Anybody seen a: The Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit

.460 Rowland is designed for higher pressures than .45 ACP. It is based on the .45 ACP only 1/16" longer to prevent .460 Rowland ammo from chambering in .45 ACP firearms. In the CCU 230 gr. .45 ACP projectiles are propelled to a maximum velocity of about 1050 fps; with .460 Rowland that...

    Favorite Rimfire?

I've got enough .22s that I'm going to have to pick three: First, the 10/22. What more is there to say? <1/2" groups at 50 yards, and the 25-round TI magazines I got for it recently have made it more fun than ever. I got this Savage Striker several years back. It was dirt cheap. The...

Anybody seen a: The Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit

I have had one for several years and have been slowly accessorizing it to death: If you're worried about muzzle velocity get the .460 Rowland version and load some barn burners for it. Mine is .460 Rowland, but all I ever shoot are .45 ACPs -- I like mine to stay subsonic. Mechtech makes a...

    Ammo price increase

Price of lead over the last four years: Price of copper over the last four years: The Chinese are buying all the lead the can for batteries and electronics. Prices will eventually stabilize, hopefully subsequent to new production capacity.

    Transfer Fee Increase

My FFL charges $50 for NFA transfers, $25 for Title I transfers. $50 is justifiable for an NFA transfer, not so much for a regular transfer.

.45 ACP magazines and the AR

He welds a mag block on to the back fo the Sten mag and mills a mag catch slot in the block. He also has to adjust the lips inward slightly. I think he may also be squeezing and grooving the mag. From what I understand it is pretty involved -- he's charging $60/mag. If you shop around you...

.45 ACP magazines and the AR

I know a fellow who just got an Olympic .45 AR. Olympic didn't want to sell it to him because they don't have any mags to ship with the guns, but he has a local gunsmith making .45 magazines out of Sten mags. The modified Sten mags hold something like 20 rounds and work perfectly.
