50 yrd Mostly KIDD 10/22 Group Test #2

I would say that you likely have a rifle that is more accurate than the ammo being used. I've tested a decent amount of 22LR ammos for accuracy and velocity stats. CCI SV is not bad for what it is (something better than bulk 22LR), but it's just not that good for consistently shooting small...

How do you rate AR Magazines & Followers?

There can be no consensus - this is the internet. That said - I have bought all kinds of AR-15 mags over the years - used Colt mags with light green followers, K-mags "Extreme Duty" from CDNN, Thermold (or melt-haha) "Law enforcement use only" marked mags, C-Products, and of course various...

Is there really that much difference 115 or 124gr for the 9mm

For 9mm 115gr vs 124gr, quality defensive ammo, these would be my considerations: 1. Where does the ammo group in my specific firearm? Various ammos group differently in different guns. Windage is a simple with a sight pusher. Too high or too low in elevation is not an easy adjustment with the...

    Servicios Small Pistol Primers.

SA primers throw sparks in the daytime and create larger than normal flash in low light, but still sets off 100% with a 1st gen S&W M&P. That M&P only runs about 90% with Tula primers. I do not consider SA to be "hard" primers. They function well, but probably aren't ideal if you compete for time.

Vintage Handgun Values - up or down?

There's the incentives. Used gun pricing has to take into account new gun pricing. While a new S&W revolver doesn't hold a candle to those of yesteryear in terms of fit and finish, S&W has a surplus of new revolvers that they are incentivizing with a $50-$75 rebate through 4-30-24. Any sort of...

Is CCI Blazer aluminum case fading away?

I was skeptical about Blazer aluminum until last year when I took a training class where this ammo was provided. In a class of about 15 people, with various handgun brands (Smith, Glock, Springfield, HK), the ammo performed. About 5K cartridges used by the class in total. It was accurate enough...

Magnum - Small rifle vs small pistol

Cold weather function. The use case for CCI 450 are rifle cartridges that have a small primer pocket and need to ignite ball powder in cold weather conditions.

    Holosun for CCW

This subject will be discussed forever because it is largely based on personal preference, how an individual has previously trained, and the large number of combinations of handguns and electronic sights. I am all for tools that help new shooters be more proficient; for those with eyesight...

TC Contender & Encore (let’s talk)

Just some random T/C thoughts Contenders and Encores are definitely unique and old-school.....but it's an easy way to spend a lot of money - extra barrels, optics for those barrels, stocks, forends, aftermarket trigger. There's no way I would buy a used gun "barrel package" if I wasn't...

    Small rifle primers in 308

Any small rifle primer has a certain amount of powder that it can effectively ignite, with a lot of variables like temperature, elevation, humidity, type of powder, case capacity, etc. The 308Win SRP came from competition demand, which is a relatively controlled environment, relatively full...

How often do you USE the handgun you carry in the woods?

It really comes down to three questions... 1. What is the purpose of being in the woods? Working an occupation that requires being in desolate places vs working on a personal farm or land vs hunting vs walking or dayhiking vs backpacking are all different use cases. Woods carry discussion is...

    .22 LR Buy

Federal Automatch AM22 is great for plinking. It's really taken over due to availability. WM used to carry Fed #510 or the #745 bulk packs, but anymore they carry a Winchester bulk pack, CCI SV and MM, sometimes Blazer, but always AM22. It's HV, so it cycles most firearms. There has been a...

    Good deals on Spyderco.

Great deals on some great knives. Spyderco is upgrading steel on some products from CPM S30V to CPM S45VN. Keyboard commandos can split those hairs, but everyday pocket knife users just saved some dollars. There's also quite a few K390 steel models, so I guess those didn't sell well. A good...

    Ruger Mark IV

I'm not a big Ruger Mk fan (at least the original one with the small trigger guard and the target grip angle), but I did install a VQ accurizing kit on a friend's MkIV. I was impressed with the end result. It can be set for a minimal (but safe) takeup before a light "glass rod" break. As...

    308 Winchester 16” v 20” barrel length noise question

"Appreciably louder" is hard to judge. Years ago, some random person at the range was wowed by how loud my hunting rifle was as I was sighting it in. He asked me what caliber it was, with the obvious expectation that I would respond with some "338-louden-boomer". He appeared quite surprised...
