You can get a conversion cylinder to switch an 1858 Remington to shoot 45 Colt ammo - only black powder or low powered "Cowboy" loads. Go to Midwayusa and run a search on this string - "remington 1858 conversion cylinder".
I won't venture a guess re. the legal aspect of such a conversion done...

A browning BLR *might* be *slightly* more solid and accurate, at a much higher price than a Marlin. It is basically a bolt-action operated by a lever. See

The OP can't do that - his problem is that his POI shifts when he reloads. The early Ruger 44 only holds IIRC 5 rounds, so he is forced to reload after 5 rounds.
The 200-xxxx models were all made by Marlin, with the 200-2550 actually being a Marlin 336. I suggest that you contact Marlin and see what they have to say, based on your serial number.

A conventional scope vs open sights are not the only options - there are also "scout" scope mounted scopes, red dot sights, and head-up displays.

That's incorrect - an empty PM9 is slightly heavier (at 15.9 oz, including magazine) than an empty 642 (at 15.0 oz). When loaded, the weight difference is even greater.
