    45/70 ammo

I have two trapdoors and shoot both often. I use a 405 grain HiTek coated bullet and 28 grains of H4198. This load is quite low pressure and approximates the original black powder load. Be aware that the lowest setting on a trapdoors sights will be for about 200 yards so it will shoot more than...

    Small pistol primer in .223?

2ndtimer, I didn't say I wanted to try it, I was just curious as to why not.

    Small pistol primer in .223?

Some pistol calibers using small primers generate over 42,000 CPU pressures. Could small pistol primers be used safely in mild .223 loads? And if not, why not? Just curious.

    $10.00/1000 CCI 500 Primers!

It might be of interest to all of you to take a look at our US Bureau of Labor and Statistics chart showing how inflation of our currency has affected our buying power. As an example, paying $7.00 for 1000 primers in 1970 would be equal to paying $47.19 for the same 1000 primers today. Does...

    Polymer Experiment Continues

I have a Stevens straight pull bolt 12 gauge shotgun that was made around 1950. It has what Stevens called a tenite stock (some kind of plastic forerunner to today's polymers). It still looks great and is as usable as it was when new. I'm told these stocks were prone to failure but this one is...

    45-70 load

My regular load for trapdoors is 28 gns H4198 with a 405 gn cast bullet. Gives about 1250 fps, accurate and moderate recoil. I would be very leery of using Unique as it would be too easy to double charge if not very careful.

Single shot feed ramp for savage 12fv

I have a 12FV in .223 that I shoot often. I load it single shot. When I first got it I was going to get a single shot adapter but I found it is so easy to load one round at a time that I decided it would just be a waste of money. I realize though that your situation may be different.

Cheap reduced load for .308 and 30-06

Just to clarify a few things; these are magnetic jacketed bullets, I plan to use them with a pair of well worn Savage Axis rifles, I was not hoping for great accuracy but maybe 3 MOA and very light recoil. I have used H4895 for reduced loads in the past with good results but even with 32 gns it...

Cheap reduced load for .308 and 30-06

I have been given several thousand 150 grn 30 caliber pulled military bullets. I would like to use them for some cheap (very cheap) shooting. I have read on a cast bullet site about "the load" which is 13 grns of red dot powder with a cast lead bullet. Does anyone here have experience using this...

Who enjoys shooting real antique firearms?

I regularly shoot my Springfield trapdoor rifles, the oldest one is over 140 years old. It fascinates me to see just what firearms of that era are capable of. I am always interested in any other older rifles I see being fired. I have met someone firing a Martini-Henry, several people with Krags...

    Shooting "older" guns

I shoot a Springfield trap door 45/70 that was made in 1873 regularly. Still shoots just fine.

Does a cannelure affect a bullets accuracy?

If two bullets are identical in weight, size and shape, but one has a cannelure and the other does not, will one be more accurate than the other when loaded equally? If so, why?

    Reloads from an unknown source

I will be breaking these rounds down for components. Thank you all for your responses.

    Reloads from an unknown source

A friend gave me several hundred .357 magnum reloads that he had purchased at a gun show about 20 years ago. All look to still be in excellent condition. They are loaded with round nose uncoated lead bullets which I would assume means they were loaded to less than max velocity. My question is...

Just checked Everglades Reloading and they show CCI 500 small pistol in stock at $35/1000.
