It is well worth the effort to learn to shoot left handed. It took me about 6 months to get up to speed.
I shot right handed guns for a number of years with no issues until I ran across an 80's vintage left handed wingmaster with a light contour barrel. I really like having a left handed...
I would check over at the Benelli forums. They were a great help when I had an old HK badged gun. Here is a thread that might get you started.

I was in Honduras about 15 years ago for work and don't recall the firearms. What still sticks in my mind was the overwhelming smell of 2-Stroke gasoline.
Thanks Everyone. It was nice to get out there. Shooting well and seeing a few friends that I havent seen in a while made it even better.
A few years ago, I moved to 7/8 oz loads and when the pink 3/4 oz claybusters came out and lead hit $40 a bag, I made the switch and never looked back...
I was thrilled with it and was grinning like an idiot for the next 10 minutes. I would have been happy with 40/50 as well. I think the lay off forced me to concentrate a little more than I normally do when shooting a lot.

It's a good deal if you can use it.
What barrel length? For a 28", I would gladly pay that, but not the 26" guns. I have had a couple .410 Bore SKB 525 guns and really did not like the shorter tubes on the 26" version.
Those cheap bulk pack loads recoil quite a bit.
If she gets the ok from the doc, I would look at loading 3/4 oz light loads. They are plenty enough to break 16 yard targets.
Do you have a skeet range around? A .410, while challenging has next to no recoil.
If you want a new gun, then take a look around and see what you like.
If you like the 1187, then by all means get it repaired. Unless it was maltreated, it sounds like there is a lot of life left in it. I have seen many 1100's with well north of 100k rounds on them. They do get sharp on...
