Problems like this is why I gave up on lee reloading presses. I learned to load on a pro 1000 and at one time had 4 loadmasters, each had their own quirks I had to figure out to make work. The most reliable of my loadmasters, when adjusted to work properly, had the same problem with the actuator...
I use to use Lee equipment including the auto disc measure and later the autodrum. While both measures were plenty usable I made the change to Hornady equipment a while back and like the Hornady powder measure way more. Much more solidly built and no leaks even with very fine powder.
What you’ve read is true. It’s a great powder, clean, accurate, plenty of load data, but it is pricy. I’ve shot several pounds of it over the years, but honestly there are plenty of other powders that work just as well for less. I’m sure you will like it though.
I use two different 9mm setups on my LnL, one for FMJ boolits and one for coated lead. All dies I use are Lee.
For coated lead my setup is:
1. Resize/deprime.
2. Custom NOE flair die for oversized cast boolits.
3. Hornady powder drop.
4. Seating.
5. Taper crimp.
For jacketed boolits...
Were your reloaded bullets really shiny? I’ve had some funky readings before shooting shiny bullets in certain sun angles. I personally don’t think the gun would cycle a 665 FPS load, and if it somehow did it would feel like a cap gun. Did your handloads feel normal? Also, if you fired a load...
I really like our sportsman’s warehouse, they stock a pretty decent selection of reloading supplies. They currently have primers as cheap as I’ve seen in a long time, at $23.99/k. They ship to store for free for local pickup too.
I bet the problem you will run into is the crappy pot metal shell plate carrier. I doubt that will take the stress of swaging very much brass at all.
I ran loadmasters for years and liked to seat my primers a little deeper than average and at least once a year I would crack the shell plate...
Primers can take more abuse than you would think. Ive had them load upside down and sideways smashed so far into the primer pocket they were below flush, and they didn't complain.
Their big announcement today is a micro compact pistol with 11+1 capacity that appears aimed directly at the 365. Looks pretty well thought out, many things that will appeal to lots of people, like a universal rail for any accessory and an optical sight option. Also comes with 11 round and 13...
I ran Loadmaster presses for several years, still own 3, but have switched to a Hornady LnL. There are many things you can do to make your Loadmaster experience better, but the single best improvement I made to mine was mounting a mirror over the priming station to make sure primers were seated...
Got this email today from Walther.
Who's gonna try a PPQ now? I haven't checked into the details so not sure what the terms are, but if you are on the fence about a PPQ this should help push you over.
