    Want To Start Casting

I would look at LEE 10 or 20 pound pot. They work well, have either ladle or bottom pour options, and don't cost mich more than what you are looking at. That four pounds will go by in a hurry!

Is 36 Cal Overkill for Rabbits & Squirrels

Depends on you powder load. Thats the nice thing about muzzleloaders, you can load it stout enough to pass clean through three rabbits, or bounce off of 'em! Just adjust your load to do what you need it to do. Find a good, accurate light load and go on.

Handloader and Muzzle Blasts. (I think it's two words, don't have one in front of me now.)

    YAST (Yet Another Starting Thread)...

If you are going to be shooting round ball (as you should be starting out) get some pillow ticking (.010-.015) to use as a patch, take that material and rip it into strips the same width as your barrel. Now comes the complicated part, your going to have to make your own patch lube. The...

vintage CVA mountain rifle drum clean out screw help

Clean out screws aren't needed really, other than for ease of cleaning. The 1863 Springfield rifled musket for example, first pattern had it, but patterns 2 and 3 (I believe) did away with it. If you can still get the nipple out you'll be fine.

    Single shot rifles

Gonna have to disagree with ya hardcore on this one. Nothing against the Rugers, but to say they are the only ones worth having is a huge stretch. You'd be leaving out the Sharps, highwalls, rolling blocks, etc.

    Single shot rifles

Would be nice to have a way to differentiate between older style, classic firearms (you know, the interesting ones) and these new fangled, "fancy" guns... You know, so I don't have to listen to "My AR is doing this and now I wanna cry" :D For the record, I'm torn right now for what I like to...

    Savage Axis accuracy?

Savage Axis in .243 would absolutely be my choice. In my opinion Hexhead has little to no real experience with the Axis. Low price does not translate to low quality. The trigger is fine, and with a little work can be made great for a hunting trigger. I've yet to see one that won't shoot.

Bought a Savage Axis as a project

As I stated in an earlier post, I've got a similar situation. I didn't feel like possibly sending my rifle off, so we put a piece of shim stock where the ring and rail mate up. Works perfect, and every bit as ridgid as without it. I understand if you don't want to go this route, but figured I'd...

Bought a Savage Axis as a project

I understand your point, if you don't want to do anything to the rifle, buy a more expensive model. But as a project gun (where basically you are buying an action) I see no point in paying more. There are competion rifles being built off of the AXIS platform, that perform just as well as one...

Bought a Savage Axis as a project

Ok, you can buy a $450-$600 savage rifle for an action to build off of, OR you can buy a $250-$300 rifle for the exact same purpose. Especially when you are on a budget, you can build a superb rifle, for less initial investment. If you really doubt the build capability of an AXIS then I...

    .223 variants and wildcats

As of right now from the research I've been doing, I believe the .223 AI is in the lead for me personally. The little bit of extra velocity is nice, the brass life savings will be nice and the ability to get a barrel to throw heavier slugs will be very nice indeed. This isn't to say I've decided...

Bought a Savage Axis as a project

I have to put a piece of shim stock on the right side of the rear scope ring in order to not max out my adjustment. No big deal for me as its never affected anything. Personally I think the Axis is a great build platform.
