I had a 686 and 2 GP100's at the same time. I still have the 686. The GP100 is a tank and I have nothing against it, but the Smith is smoother, has much sexier lines and is no wimp. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but for me it's S&W first.

An M44 is more of a $150-200 gun, so value is affected a bit by matching. Both will only increase as time goes on.

If you like the M44, get one. There will be 91/30's available for quite some time. The M44 won't do anything the 91/30 can't, but they're cool just the same. If you're patient, you should be able to find a M44 for about $150 or you can grab one easily for $200.

There is surplus 8mm from many different countries and configurations. Get a few others and try them until you find one your rifle likes.

What kind of Mauser and ammo?

Seems like if the gun were a bit further under your armpit, it would be much more concealable.

I've carried a full size 1911 and M&P in both summer and winter though I usually go with a compact version. I've also carried a G21 in winter OWB. I don't have a IWB holster for it or it would probably be carried more often.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Stags are pretty straight foward AR's. You should be able to use any standard handguards for it, but unless you want to buy some tools for it or pay a gunsmith, you'll have to make sure any rail you get works with the end cap and delta ring set up...
