Dug relic 1911 restoration (Pics and Video)

Pardon me for the late entry, but if discussing original 1911 mags, they were pinned....not welded. It wouldn't take much corrosion to compromise the peened pin heads and cause a failure of the floorplate.

    Any STAR fans here?

STAR autos appear to be well made...especially those from the 1940s-70s. Are there any fans of the B, BS and B Supers here? If so, relate any and all of your experiences with the various models. TIA

Please advise on Rusky SKS vs. S&W 586 trade.....

The only Soviet SKS, mfg'd in 1955, that I have owned, was $155 in ca. 1996. L-frame S&Ws are increasing in demand among shooter/collectors, especially the blued and nickled variants.

    5.45x39 vs .30 carbine

I'm considering replacing my M4gery with an M1 Carbine. I've killed deer with the .223, but not the .30 Carbine. Key is bullet design, construction and placement.

    Swedish Mauser range report

I had an M38 Swede, made in 1941, all matching, etc..... The first 5 rounds through the gun were Hansen 139gr. FMJ. They went into 1.5-inches at 100 yards. I later used my M38 as the basis for a custom build, keeping the original barrel, but having it shortened to 20-inches and the profille...

Allow me to add a bit more info: I, and my wife, CCW every time we leave the house, Being a former LEO, I understand the concept of 'personal responsibility'. Therefore, I am NOT going to 'be caught dead' without SOME means of personal protection. For me, now, it's an S&W 640, rated for +P+...

Who builds the best striker fired pistol and why?

Your list doesn't list THE BEST 'striker-fired' auto: the Walther P99. The P99 is very ergonomic, lightweight, has THE best trigger of the lot, is scary accurate and has 2nd strike capability.

    AR/M4 v M1 Carbine?

Urban/civian defensive use. I have no problems with either weapon's sight setup.

    S&W 315 .38 SPL NightGuard

My wife made the unltimate(?) committment to revolvers earlier this summer when she sold her SA Micro Compact Operator .45. She CCWs an S&W 351PD daily. However, being her loving hubby, I wanted her to have something a wee bit more 'substantial'. I lucked upon a near mint S&W 315 NightGuard...

INSIDE 150 yards, is there REALLY any PRACTICAL difference between the two, given good ammunition, reliable mags, etc?
