Where can I find some 45 Colt for delivery to California?

From the link Pat Riot posted: "For eligible persons, neither California nor Federal law impose any limits on purchase or storage of manufactured or reloaded ammunition. California does place limits on storage of smokeless propellant - 20 pounds - and black powder - 1 pound." I believe one...

    What Handgun for hunting deer?

+1. (and I don't even own one)...every example I've tried has been accurate. They are stout but not overly heavy. Under appreciated guns, imho.

    woodsgun and 30yd accuracy

Grip: Consistent grip, two hands and firm is easiest for most. Sight alignment: With a 4" barrel, precise sight alignment is critical to accuracy. Easier to do with a longer barrel. Trigger control: Can you drop the hammer without changing the "precise" sight alignment? Can you do it on a...

Your best shot with a handgun intentional or not

I'm with Armored farmer's thought that if you shoot enough you are bound to get lucky at some point. There have been several shots that I'll not forget in my lifetime, below are 2. - 4 of us had just gotten started walking the sage for bedded deer. A coyote ran down a draw and up the other...

    Woods Revolver Cartridge

I have been nonplussed by the 357 on critters....41mag would be my choice.

    460v vs 460xvr

If you already have a 7.5" model 83, what are you trying to gain with the 460? Just curious, not saying it is a bad idea...but, imhe, the 454 has plenty of pop at 100 yards.

    .41 Mag Association

RJM52: I have old models in 357 and 41 mag...different frame sizes for mine.

Real world average 25 yard grouping.

Grip, sight alignment, trigger control and follow through is the mantra for precision handgun shooting. Guessing by the above, looks like sight alignment issues and/or trigger control (pressing the trigger without moving the sights. Dry fire is one way to suss that out, leaving a couple empty...

    What would you do?

Obturation: I can't help with dating the serial number, but don't think that style of rear sight was used on the early guns.

Thinking of getting into handgun hunting, what to get?

If you are going to use iron sights, I suggest 6" minimum with 7.5" being better. Ime, sight radius does matter and the extra velocity doesn't hurt. Optics make sight radius moot. Perhaps just a meaningless factoid, but Ruger 45 Colts have been more prone to dimensional inconsistency and thread...

    41 magnum, why?

One thing the 41 does better than the 44 is fit the N frame S&W. The 44 is just a tad too much for the gun, imho.

    .357 Magnum vs .45 Colt

Had the same thought while perusing this thread...you must have a great mind! Great shooting mcb...no doubt in my mind that you'd do better than most if the shtf with a bear, even with your puny 44 mag (but leave the hollow points at home for that one).

    FA 353 hunting loads

You might consider A-Frames...I think they have 158 and 180 for the 357. Pretty sure they will hold up to anything the 353 can dish out (I have one). I'd try a fast 158...am thinking it would work really well on deer, pig, or black bear. They are expensive. Ime, XTPs are on the soft side...

    Can you wax a revolver?

Bob: How often do you apply that mix on a gun that just sits in the safe? thanks, dvnv
