    cartridge chamber units

Just want to add that it if one does exists, you might run into accuracy issues or leading if you use lead bullets. Most .45 Colt ammo uses a .451 or .452 bullet but the .45-70 uses a .458.

    True Grit problem

It has been a while since I have watched the movie, I only remembered the quote not the gun, which is why I said they might have used a walker but called it a Dragoon. Thanks for the screen shots showing it.

    True Grit problem

Just to point out, one line in the John Wayne version calls the pistol a "Colts Dragoon". I don't know if they used a walker and called it a dragoon or not, but I do remember JW calling it a Dragoon. The quote from the movie goes: "Why, by God, girl, that's a Colt's Dragoon! You're no...

    No Lube?!

You are probably right steelbird, but I live in the middle of no and where, and I wasn't going to go anywhere for something to get the pin out. I tapped it alternatively on each side and it slowly worked its way out.

    No Lube?!

Going from my experience, there is no way I can get 50 shots off with my 1858 Pietta replica. Max I have gotten with absolutely no lube is about 36 shots and by that time it is binding up badly. Ended up having to beat the cylinder pin off because it was so bad. I do use the lube pills myself...

Cap and Ball revolvers, are these legal in NY,MA?

They are allowed to pass laws that are more restrictive than the fed, but have to enforce fed law if their own laws are more lenient. That being said, I don't believe that state or fed should pass laws restricting anything in the Constitution.

An easier (for me) method of making paper cartridges.

I do it this way, but I still put paper and all in the chamber.
