First equipment purchase - please review

I would suggest NOT getting the #1 shellplate and get the #45 instead direct from Hornady. I find the #1 loose for 45ACP. At the same time, I would recommend getting the pistol metering insert and rotor combination, as well as, one additional standard pistol metering insert (also only available...

HOW does the RCBS lock out die work?

Yeah, I'll open it up and clean it. Maybe that will improve my results.

    SKS and headspace

It was unissued so it sounds like headspace should not be an issue. I will check the firing pin to ensure it moves freely. I imagine it will since I cleand and lubed everything but I will make sure since I can't be certain. Thanks for the advice!

Do you need calipers and cartridge gauge?

I like case gauges a lot. They are very handy when setting up your dies to make sure the cartridge has the right dimensions and will chamber. I found it especially helpful when taper crimping. I taper crimp just enough so that it falls into the case gauge freely.

    SKS and headspace

I purchased an unissued SKS from a gun show last year. I have yet to shoot it. I cleaned it all up and it looks fantastic. Do I need to get the headspace checked? Is there anything I should check myself? Thanks, AJ
