.30 cal semi-auto with gas cutoff - No good options?

Regarding the M1A, it seems getting a model with the scout rail may cost something like $250 more than the standard model, based on current pricing. Anyone have an opinion on the barrel-mounted rail or aftermarket options?

.30 cal semi-auto with gas cutoff - No good options?

Thanks for all the input so far, guys. Sounds like I got some stuff wrong or there's just not as much consensus about what happens in these scenarios as I thought. The M1A is the top contender if feasible for the reasons I outlined originally, so I'm happy to hear it may be back in the...

.30 cal semi-auto with gas cutoff - No good options?

I've owned probably two dozen guns of various types in the decade or so I've been shooting, but I've never actually owned a semi-auto rifle besides a .22 LR. The main reasons are (1) I don't care for the noise and (2) I hate the idea of fetching all the brass for reloading, at least when...

Mounting optics rail without scratching finish - S&W 327 TRR8

I ended up doing that, just with packing tape instead of friction tape (because I used all I had before). No word on how it holds up to recoil yet, but with as many screws as are on each rail I doubt it'll be a problem.

Mounting optics rail without scratching finish - S&W 327 TRR8

So I have a new TRR8, which I'm super excited about (especially after dry practicing with a moon clip full of 38 Short Colt and finding that the chambers basically act like magnets). I was about to mount the optics rail to fiddle around with it when I realized that I was putting steel on...

Moon Clip Revolver Quest - Revisited

Yeah, the Alfa Proj is still a consideration for sure, but it does seem like a wildcard. I don't know that just because it comes out of the Czech Republic that I can assume it'll have CZ quality. Then again, it might be pretty awesome.

Moon Clip Revolver Quest - Revisited

First of all, thanks for all the responses. I did read them but didn't have much to add as I was getting discouraged in my quest (25-2 looks good, but not a slam dunk for me). But... Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I just "rediscovered" the S&W 327 / R8 and/or TRR8, or whatever, it seems...

Moon Clip Revolver Quest - Revisited

I've made several different threads about my quest for a moon clip revolver over the past year or so. My goals have changed slightly as I've learned more, but I'm looking for a revolver that: Uses moon clips for fast reloads Has a very good trigger Does not have a stainless or all-silver...

    how beneficial for 9mm?

I just shifted to a progressive press and started loading 9mm only when I did that. I love reloading, but I don't think it's worth the time to load 9mm 7 less you're on a progressive. It'll save you maybe $5 a box even with carefully selected cheaper components, and on a single stage or turret...

Questions about moving to progressive press

Great help and insight, Wreck, thanks a lot. Gives me a lot more confidence going into this. If you see this again, would you mind expanding on your priming situation? I thought I had read somewhere else to reverse what you mentioned about sizing and decapping (i.e. use the pinless sizing die...

Questions about moving to progressive press

Hi all, I've been using a Lee Classic Turret press for somewhere around a year and a half. By and large, it's been really good, and I can pretty much say the same for all my Lee dies and accessories. I'm planning to move to a progressive, and the Load Master seems like the right choice as...

Looking for milsurp rifle with smooth (bolt, or not) action

Thanks for the input Mike, I've wanted a Ljungman for some time. Even if it had gas settings, though, it wouldn't make a great "bolt" gun due to the design. How does the brass hold up? The videos I've seen show the brass smacking the deflector pretty hard. The pronunciation seems to be...

1911 Bushing compensator and 1-piece FLGR

Thanks MislMan, I figured installing from the back was impossible, just couldn't figure out why removing the comp like any other bushing (with FLGR still in the gun) and then disassembling would be a problem. You sort of answered that in saying that it's just hard to get the comp actually on...

Looking for milsurp rifle with smooth (bolt, or not) action

Hah... I'm sure that's a good deal, but I need to get my hands on whatever I buy first. My idea of a smooth action might be different from someone else's. =) Thanks for the heads up on that one, though. Pretty neat looking rifle

1911 Bushing compensator and 1-piece FLGR

How did your FLGR interfere with the compensator? That's kind of my main question. I'm having trouble understanding how a normal bushing can come on and off but not a bushing comp. Maybe I'm missing something. I doubt the FLGR is doing anything significant as far as accuracy or smoothing the...
