I carry my XD40 sub-compact daily and I love it. I also like Colts, Sigs, Walthers and many other handguns. The thing I love about my XD is that I paid half of what I did for my HK P2000 in .40 and it performs just as well. I think the XD is a lot of gun for the price.

HK P2000 is fully ambidextious. It has an ambi slide stop and ambi mag release. Mine is great for carrying. I carry my XD-40 subcompact more often b/c it's smaller and that is very lefty friendly as well. It has an ambi mag release which is really all i need since I slingshot the slide...

I agree with Deanimator on this one. Don Hume makes an excellent IWB holster and they are only like $27 I think. I've got one for my P2000 and one for my XD-40 subcompact.

I vote handgun as well. In a military point of view the handgun has much less value than a rifle but for the average joe a pistol makes more sense. You can carry a pistol on you and always have it nearby. If the SHTF while you're out and about, a rifle in your house or in your vehicle may not do...
