Wow, you guys are rough! I normally hunt with my 30-30 or 7mm-08 so I'm not so sure I qualify as deranged. However, I did buy a Barrett M99 and am hoping to have some fun during deer season from long distances -- certainly not purchased as a "deer rifle." Ok, I'm a hick!

I will ultimately be reloading my own and probably using Barnes TSX 647gr but, in the mean time, can anyone assist with factory ammo recommendations that might be good for deer? I want penetration of course and some expansion but most of the ammo I'm seeing is FMJ that probably won't expand...

Just bought a BLR stainless TD in 358. Shoots great and I can't wait to use it on deer/elk this fall. I think I'm going to be one of those who becomes religious with this gun.

Thanks all. I decided to just get another Marlin (1895XLR in 45-70). The barrel is a little shorter than my cowboy version and it's just a little more maneuverable in the woods. Accurate as heck too. Thanks for the info.

We probably got off track a little here! Again, I have no beef with the glass. As I said, my 3.5-10 w/ #4 reticle mounted on my Browning X-bold 7mm-08 is probably the best deer gun I've ever had. Love their glass, construction and reticles. I was just a little misled by the lack of information...
