    Remington 740/742

The Kittery Trading Post in Maine (one of the largest outdoor. hunting/firearms stores in the North East) will not take them in trade. I have seen more than one that is a jam-o-matic. I had one years ago that worked fine although used infrequently, but sold it. Don't miss it either. They are...

ATF visited my dealer over multiple handgun purchases

I heard from a friend that a guy I used to know got a visit from the ATF because a couple of newer guns were traced to him and were found at the scene of a crime, two separate incidents in Massachusetts. Apparently he blah-blahed them and they went away. He probably said something like, "gee...

    Welding a rifle barrel

I'm with xtrigger - the barrel would be safe to shoot. I can imagine that it warped a bit from the removed metal though but not necessarily. I would not hesitiate to weld it and reprofile it except for welding on one side like that you very likely will cause it to bend or warp. A good preheat...

    Home owner's insurance

I haven't read all the posts in this thread yet but when I read a number of posts reccommending State Farm, I had to respond! I was insured by State Farm for 19 years with only two claims ever. One claim was for damage to a car that drove by while I was mowing my lawn and it seems that a rock...

Shipping a rifle and need box.

Go look in the dumpster at your local curtain and drape shop. Some of the hardware or materials they use comes in heavy carboard boxes that are long - perfect for shipping a rifle or other long gun. You could also ask at your local gun sellers. They may have some extras as well.

Gun show and gun store observations.

In defense of the dealers regarding the statement that they are gouging - you must relaize that they cannot get AR receivers like they did before. A friend who runs a local shop told me that he may order a 15 or 20 particular AR's and the distributers "may" come back with we can ship 3 or 4 of...

    .220 Pachmayr Swift?

A chamber cast would be easy but I don't have a chamber. I have a set of reamers, roughing and finishing, that I am trying to sell on eBay and was asked the question by a potential bidder. The reamers are clearly labeled .220 Pachmayr Swift and are by Elliot.

    .220 Pachmayr Swift?

You funny guy Taliv. Yes, I checked Cartridges of the World and also did a Google for it. I usually do before I waste anybody's time and I guess I should have mentioned that in my original post. I was hoping that some gun crank had some experience or knowledge first hand or even had read...

    .220 Pachmayr Swift?

Does anybody have any info on this cartridge? What was changed from the original Swift to make it a Pachmayr Swift? Thanks for any input.

    What are these guns?

The first Swiss rifle is a 1911 and not a K31. The first trapdoor is an early model identified by the two piece trigger guard.

Own any guns that have "a history"?

Years ago, I answered an add in the local want ad paper for a Colt 1911. The Colt had been sold when I called but the seller said he had some other guns for sale, one was a P08 Luger. I asked him to hold it for me and made about a 2 hour drive to get it. When I got there, another guy was...

    Winchester 100 safety

Greetings, new guy here and I am hoping that somebody can help me with my problem. A fellow brought a Winchester 100 in .308 into the shop the other day with a safety that would not work. I figured the spring plunger would be missing or perhaps some debris was jammed in there preventing the...

Uncle died, aunt has firearms... what about paperwork?

There are no laws requireing paperwork on the transfer of a long gun in most of NY state - NYC and the surrounding areas may be different. The 4473 is now white and it does list the type of firearm as well as make and model and the serial number, which the dealer adds. It's all in the part...

    Need a TC Renegade bbl

The same seller has several barrels for auction and may have more that are not listed. These are new barrels from Fox Ridge Outfitters - I know, I bought several from them at the same time this guy did. Mine are all gone.
