    S&W 14-4 (trash or treasure $980)

I’m in the club of too expensive. I just three weeks ago picked up a S&W Model 15 in similar condition for $405 off of GB. Total after taxes, shipping, and transfer was under $500. It’s a SHOOTER! Haven’t had it out but twice, but on second trip, I shot a “clean” 12rds in 20sec at 15yds. 158gr...

Beretta 30X anyone here have one yet?

Not likely! I have a .32 12shot and .380 8shot (+1 on both of course) Police surp. I enjoy shooting them, but in the grand scheme, they’re range toys..

    Why 32 h&r?

Why a .32H&Rmag? This is one reason why…. And besides, it uses less lead, less powder. But, with the load that shot that group, it has more power and shoots flatter than a .38spl. (100gr Hornady XTP, Starline case, Federal #100 primer, published max load of Hodgdon’s Lil’Gun @25yds). Runs just a...

    Winchester 244

What? You’ve never owned a WATCH ? A chronometer is a time piece… A chronograph is used for measuring the speed (velocity) of a projectile… But I “ think” we know what you meant.

    Winchester 244

From what I’ve read, Win231 manufacture requires some compounds not liked by the EPA. Environmental protection regulations make the manufacture more difficult and expensive. Win244 is manufactured by newer more environmentally friendly processes that make it cheaper to manufacture. But the...

    Beloved 30-06 Anyone?

I do! All 6 of them! Just 15yrs ago I was down to a single .338/06. Now, it’s back to 6. My original is an Interarms (Zastava) MkX “Classic”. I rebarreled it to .338/06 in ‘04. In ‘22, I had the original barrel replaced. I’ve also acquired 2 M1 Garands. (One I inherited from my older brother...

    Winchester 244

My younger brother who lives in LasVegas, only loads for one center fire, that being a .45Colt cylinder for his Pietta cap and ball revolver. He bought Win 244 because it was the only suitable powder he could find at the time, and it was cheaper. He’s quite pleased with the results. I cast him...

    Finally, another MiniMilsurp-

Caribou ! What’s that in the left of the photo with the “white wash” treatment? Looks to be an M1A? Lucky kids!

    Turnbull S&W M15-8

Remarkably similar, I just today took possession of a Model 15-3. I snagged it off of GB. Spent a little more than I’d wanted to, but… it’s now in my guardianship. Bluing isn’t perfect, but much better than I’d expected based on the picture pictures. Just a touch of holster wear on the barrel...

    Reduced powder charge for M1A

Hodgdons has repeatedly stated that H4895 can be reduced to 60% of max safely. https://hodgdonpowderco.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/h4895-reduced-rifle-loads-2.pdf

    Reduced powder charge for M1A

Not a 7.62x51, but rather .30/06 in a M1 Garand…. I’ve gone as low a 34.5gr of H4895 and gotten full cycling using a 160gr Lee .311” PtGC bullet with powder coat. Velocity is around 2,100fps. Very mild load. https://hodgdonpowderco.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/h4895-reduced-rifle-loads-2.pdf

    New at annealing question

It depends on the cartridge case in question. A .22Hornet will require much less than a .375H&H case. I’ve found that 3-4seconds is enough for a .22Hornet, whereas a .308 or .30/06 will take 7-8seconds. I either just use my fingers (‘06) or a Lee case trimmer case holder in a cordless screw...

Revisiting The Old Model 700 in .270

It depends on the distance and the animal and the ammo (bullet). A .270 sighted 1.5” high at 100yds is zero at 200yds (130gr @3,000fps 22” bbl). -6” at 300yds. Sighted at 2.5” high at 100, it’s zero for 250yds. Only 3.5” low at 300yds, 15” low at 400yds. Nothing magical about the .270… Zero/zero...

    S&W Model 1905 .38 Special Project.

HERESY! I presume you’re also going to Cerecoat it in hot pink! It WAS, an “elegant weapon from a more civilized time”. I’d have; 1. Left it alone! Shoot it and enjoy it for what it is. Or, 2. Had it polished and reblued. 3. Sent it to Turnbull and had it restored and frame case hardened...

Revisiting The Old Model 700 in .270

Now that you have it zeroed for presumably 100yds, you need to raise the elevation by at least 1.5” (eastern US) or 2.5” (Western US). That way, it’s point and shoot to 250-300yds with no hold over for bullet drop. My Remington M700 in .270. And yes! It’s shoots just as good as OP’s! That’s the...
