How do I get into competition shooting?

There’s also a website called National Match (you may have to register to use) that is focused on cross the course shooting, both NRA and CMP service rifle and match rifle competitions you seeem to be interested in. Lots of helpful people and information there. They can definitely help you...

Anyone ever tried 5 Star Firearms speed loaders?

I use one of their speed loaders to load my revolver prior to an IDPA stage. Works well. I also use their loading block to reload my safariland speed loaders after the stage. Those are really handy, and I often get comments on how nice it is.

SX3 burst barrel, anyone see this before?

I had an 870 blow the choke tube and end of the barrel off a few years ago while duck hunting. IIRC, first shot of the day, I pulled up on a drake and pulled the trigger. To my surprise it didn't drop, and when I lined up again for a second shot, there was something sticking up off of my...

600 yd. range near Appleton WI?

Wisconsin has some great 600 yd ranges - LaCrosse, Racine, and Lodi are a few that come to mind. I also think there's one or two further north.

    Benj Marauder & hand pump

I don't think the pump is bad at all. I can easily shoot 40 shots without seeing any change in impact in my basement range, approx 20 yards. My dad got one, and he's about 75. He's also got arthritis, and the hand pump was not something he cared for at all. The Marauder is a pretty sweet...

    The sheer joy of firearms

Your post made me recall a moment with my young son from a few years back. He was probably 6 or 7 at the time, and he always tagged along with me hoping he would get to shoot some. I normally just shot one of my 22s at spinners so he could shoot and handle the recoil. That day I also had one...

Anyone shoot shortened 410 shells out of a 45 colt pistol

Buying them already loaded is pretty salt - about $1.50 each. To those of you that have used two gas checks to make 45 snake loads, why not use a trimmed 410 wad instead? Seems like that would help prevent the leading issues. They're also dirt cheap and I've got plenty of them. I noticed...

Anyone shoot shortened 410 shells out of a 45 colt pistol

Engr, While I haven't shot one myself, I read several reviews of the Judge that basically showed that while the gun is capable of shooting 45's, it's just not real good at it. By good, I mean accurate. Since I'm only shooting at tiny pests, I was thinking a shortened 410 would work well...

Anyone shoot shortened 410 shells out of a 45 colt pistol

This may belong in the reloading section, and if so, mods, please feel free to move it. My question is, has anyone tried to shorten 410 shells to a length that would allow them to chamber in a pistol chambered for a 45 colt? The reason I'm interested is because I live in the country in...

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

My progressive Hornady seems to be sensitive to case cleaning media getting stuck in the primer feeder groove. Even though I sift the media out of my cases, and individually shake each case to get everything out of the cases, I somehow still end up with a few kernels of media still in my clean...

Issues with pistol rounds in tube fed lever gun?

I guess I don't really understand what the "benefit" is of it in a pistol caliber. Is there one?

Issues with pistol rounds in tube fed lever gun?

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a lever gun in either 44 Mag or 45 Colt. I know they've been out there for a while, and so I was kind of wondering why Hornady introduced their FTX (Flex Tip) bullets for tube fed guns shooting pistol calibers. Was there ever a problem that needed...

Interview w/ Ted Nugent - how can someone argue with this?

Great video of Ted Nugent on an Austin public TV station. http://biggeekdaddy.com/miscvideos/TedNugent.html

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

This works really well... There's actually 2 things here. One is pretty obvious - I used to use my small bench top model drill press to uniform primer pockets and also chamfer the inside and outside of rifle brass. I found a better way to do it was to just pull the power head off the press...
