I have one mounted on my CZ550FS in 9.3x62. Two years I took a nice eight point at dusk with it. Too dark to see the crosshairs but the dot was there and I got my shot.:D
Some may "ding you" for your choice of the AR-10, but the .308 can do it all with the right bullet. A .308 AR should have been the choice of the military anyway....... bet that gets some comments!:neener:
I shot a doe with my SKS, using the 154gr load, a couple years ago. One shot, one doe. For close range it is deadly. If you are shooting to 200 meters go with the Hornady load as it shoots a lot flatter.
Your deer in Nebraska are NOT the size of Florida Swam Deer or the average Southern Whitetail. Always over gun (larger caliber) for the larger animal. I have a 6.5 Grendel, a 6.8 Rem and a 6mm/.223 (the 6/45) any of these will do the job. Of the three calibers listed I like the 6.5 Grendel...
Well I am still happy with my Jap Winchester 1886 to date. I installed a small red dot using a Taylor mount and it is deadly and fast. No regrets here......
It's a "combat rifle" made for Joe <deleted>. That being said, you are correct the triggers leave a lot to be desired. All my triggers have either been "worked" or replaced with a better trigger.:banghead:
