1936 Colt Shooting Master .357 mag has been my favorite for 25 yrs .

Might be an alloy issue . My typical outing would entail 500-600 rds fired in maybe an hour and a half . 3-5 rd bursts , some single fire at the water jugs at 50 yds and some 30rd magazine dumps . Very little build up for me .

I fired thousands of hand loaded cast lead from 185-230gr out of my Savage M1 . RN and SWC . Loaded them to standard velocities and experienced great function whether firing semi or full auto .

Webley MKIV I haven't reloaded 38 S&W . Recently there's been some Fiocchi ammo around at a decent price .

It's been a lot of years , but I believe the L frame was recalled for this exact problem . The guns would lock up with some 357 loads . S&W installs a shorter FP and the problem is solved . S&W will fix it for NC :) Here's an earlier discussion . Probably many others as well ...

If you're using it only for range/target that sounds like a good plan . At that time though , S&W had tens of thousands of L frames in LE holsters . Made sense to get them modified .

Welcome to the forum . Nice guns :cool: I don't believe the "Y" is part of the sn . It's more likely an inspector mark . Here's a factory nickel 38 made in 1926 .

Just an observation based on handling/firing hundreds of Sig pistols . The P6 seems to have a much heavier pull . If you like it , that's what counts .
