    Beto's gun rant

If one were to create a hypothesis to fit the data, one could consider the former party of the Klan changed its tactics. Smile at and declare alliance with minorities while pushing to disarm them. Sad that some minorities swallow the agenda regardless of its origin.

My New 45: Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail

Always liked those. If DW brought them back, good. Based on my experience, the bobtail helps concealment. Even if it prints, it prints more like a lump than a handgun grip. Congrats.

    Favorite CCW choices

    1. Hot summer, Commander length 1911 in 10mm. 2. Comfortable temperatures, loose clothing, Commander length 1911 in 10mm. 3. Cold whether, Commander length 1911 in 10mm. 4. In the woods where toothy critters reside, Government length 1911 in 10mm. Don't wear T-shirts and women chase me when I...

    New grips for 1911

I have matching Larry Davidson grips on my two custom 1911's. Should have bought more pairs for the future. Fortunately, some of his designs are carried on after he stopped. Here are some: http://www.sgmgrips.com/1911_vigilante_series...

    One off Concealed Carry Stories

Someone mentioned fanny packs. Back when I was in California, with a CCW permit, I was passing a guy wearing 5.11 pants, tan top and a fanny pack. I kept looking at the pack while grinning. He became uncomfortable, I kept grinning. He wasn't fooling anybody. :) My two "almost events" took place...

Any issues having a 5.56 pistol?

Prompted by "Plan2Live"'s info about length limits, I've been going through state laws looking for such. Also looking for carry requirements. Years ago, Georgia required concealed carry in a holster, but dropped that. Same for Ohio. That state used to refer to a holster while carrying in a car...

    An M.D. Argues the 40 S&W...

The FBI went from a grading system to pass/fail. Some translate a pass to mean just-as-good-as an "A" grade.

Underwood 10mm Hard Cast in Clear Ballistics Gel

Thanks for the report. Good info in spite of difficulties. They showed good penetration, useful for forest carry. Your recorded speeds are similar to mine. For the Underwood 220gr HC, my Commander length 1911 with a "fast" Bar-Sto barrel averaged 1157 ft/s. And my RIA 1911 with a 5" barrel...

Any issues having a 5.56 pistol?

That is a good reason for having a pistol that carries more capable rounds. 5.56 pistols are created as not being rifles. That allows them to normally be carried loaded when loaded rifles are disallowed. I used the more general "5.56 pistol" since some are not based on the AR15. I have a...

Any issues having a 5.56 pistol?

Anyone know of states that may have issues with 5.56 pistols, beyond the usual suspects? If one can legally carry a concealed handgun, and has a 5.56 pistol concealed in a backpack or some kind of case, are there situations where they are not viewed as being covered by the state's permit laws...

Woods carry; more critical than CCW?

Hard to watch a diet when visiting northern Idaho when everyone is selling huckleberry pies. I carry a 1911 in 10mm with a 5" barrel. Loaded with either Buffalo Bore or Underwood 220gr hardcast rounds. Couple of photos of areas at and north of Priest Lake (in northern Idaho) where there were...

British retailer bans sells of knives in its stores.

Poundland will stop selling kitchen knives across its 850 stores. According to the writer, this move is well received. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6069878/poundland-stop-selling-knives-london-stabbings/ Same language, still avoiding the real source of violence. I have no words. My greatest...

So you find yourself in a 10 x10 cage with an armed maniac and no way out...

I always carry that service sized gun. Since I can't see the future, I don't have the information available to conclude a lesser weapon would suffice. Of course, there are situations where change makes sense, when information is available. Like, for example, heading to the woods or to huggy...
