Thanks everyone for your replies. Very helpful in thinking about this.
The more I look at and learn about the issue, seems to be a question of unbalanced forces acting over different times and distances -
The firing of the cartridge imparts a large impulse (F x t)(large Force, but for...
Can anyone with some engineering/mechanics knowledge explain the physics involved in determining the necessary weight(mass) of a pistol slide and corresponding spring wt.?
I get the basics - equal-opposite-action, conservation momentum, etc...
What I'm interested in is how to calculate...
Don't think that's the one, but thanks, Kruzr.
The article I've read about was apparently actually written by Ed Brown and goes into some detail on fitting the lower lugs of the barrel - so much so that from the posts I've read even professional gunsmiths found it valuable enough to keep...
Searches on this and other boards called my attention to an article by Ed Brown that appeared in American Handgunner some years back and apparently spelled out in detail Ed's thoughts on fitting the barrel lug feet and link in a 1911.
Another board member graciously offered to forward a...
I'm going to my first 1911 build from parts. I'm considering what frame to use.
This being my first build, I anticipate learning errors. I don't want to use the best-est, most expensive frame out there (Caspian, etc...). (My goal is to use this as a learning experience to make a...
I'd like probably just to be able to strip down the slide for cleaning every few thousand rounds.
I don't think the frame/lockwork would need a detail strip often (if at all). But, from owning Glocks, I know things can get gunked up in the slide -striker channel, firing pin block...
Does anyone have information on how to detail strip a SW99 (or P99)? More specifically, how to detail strip a SW99 compact (or P99 compact).
Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Does anyone know if the slide & frame for a Colt 1911 in .38 super have the same specs as the slide & frame for a Colt 1911 in .45 or whether the specs are different?
Put differently, can you take a .38 super Colt 1911 and convert it to a .45 or vice-versa.
I think I've read before that...
B. Noir, I'd be willing to bet from the picture that the P46 uses the other delayed-blowback system HK is famous for - the roller-locking delay mechanism found in the P9S - instead of gas delay. So no heating problems. If memory serves, the pin in the rear of the slide just forward of the rear...
Just curious re: older Colts. Seems I read that back when Colt was supplying 1911's to the military and also selling them commercially, the ones they held out for commercial sales were the ones that weren't up to military spec for some reason. In essence, the rejects were held aside for...
I was perusing the internet and came across an article on "wide-link" barrels in the 1911. From what I can tell, such barrels use an oversided slide stop pin and bottom barrel lugs that differ in shape from normal 1911 lugs.
From what I gathered, the larger pin and altered lugs are...
I am thinking once pistols come equipped with hi-caps again, dealers will have a hard time selling identical pistols shipped during the ban with 10 rounders and will try to dump them asap by having sales or reducing prices on the 10 rounder equipped pistols.
Or is this just wishful thinking?
