Is it legal for an estate sale auction house to sell guns?

Wise, and cheap at the cost, to have the actually seller complete the transaction to the actual buyer through a FFL. But its a good question. I suspect a lot of guns -- pistols, rifles, shotguns, curios and relics, etc. -- turn up in estate sales all the time. By the way, ATF used to say on...

Slide Milling. Who is good and who isnt?

I had a FN slide milled by Parker Mountain Milling a couple of years ago - excellent work. Another approach might be to email Keith at Dan Wesson [email protected] or contact him on the DW sub-forum on the 1911 Forum. He probably can provide some good advice on where to go for that work on a...

Uphill All The Way: The U.S. Army In The WWII Italian Campaign

McBride's book is a classic. Another classic is "Shots Fired in Anger: A Rifleman's Eye View of the Activities on the Island of Guadalcanal" by John B. George. Both of these were written by riflemen who participated in the fighting willingly and with some relish because they were good at it...

Uphill All The Way: The U.S. Army In The WWII Italian Campaign

There is a short but excellent discussion of the use of machine guns as indirect fire weapons in WWI in the book "A Rifleman Went To War" by Herbert W. McBride. McBride was an American who enlisted in the Canadian Forces to fight in France. He was both a machine gunner and a very successful...

Respect (or lack there of) for older Gun Writers

Some of the old gun writers were very good. We have to look at them through the double lenses of 1) what equipment they had to work with, and 2) the cultural and legal environment in which they worked. What is often forgotten about Jeff Cooper, for example, is that he did much of his writing...

    Wayne LaPierre is resigning.

That may be a new guess. LaPierre personally and the NRA were inextricably tied together in the lawsuit in NY. Maybe if he goes, AG James' lawsuit has the air taken out of it... would be interesting to see if he gets a "golden parachute" to leave the NRA... Items beyond my ken but looking...

    Wayne LaPierre is resigning.

This is good news. The NRA had great stature but gradually lost its way -- for the usual reasons relating to greed. Now to get an honest, respected leader! The firearms industry is obviously a part of the equation, but should not be the dominant (in charge) part of the organization. The...

What Can I do with old reloaded ammo?

Ha! I was a "first-adopter" on the .327 Fed Mag. So that was what, about 15 years ago? The rounds I have look old -- heavily tarnished Starline brass -- but are not really ancient, as some ammunition holdings tend to be. There is probably some very old ammo sitting around in attics and the...

What Can I do with old reloaded ammo?

I like this suggestion and will give it a try. A dedicated reloader could find a lot of primers and some useable cases in this ammo box full of rounds. If that doesn't work, I will bite the bullet and visit the local police department and ask them what they suggest. Thanks.

What Can I do with old reloaded ammo?

I thought about that as an option, but most ranges won't let you shoot reloads in their guns...

What Can I do with old reloaded ammo?

I have a large ammo can full of .38, .40, .327 Fed Mag, and .45 ammo -- all handloads -- all in calibers I no longer shoot or have any guns for. By its nature, some of this ammo is hard to take apart (crimped cases). Some of this stuff is 15 years old, most about 10 years old. It's been a...

    Most Reliable Guns

Two P320's - flawless, thousands of rounds. 1911s? The SFT9 has been flawless but round count is only a couple hundred. DW Valor 9mm has been great but has had a few Failure to Feed and double-feeds -- can say it is good for a 1911, but not as good as the P320s. The response from a true...

    Lake City Ammo plant

9mm 115 grain ammo is available from a number of big internet vendors for around $259 for 1000 rounds right now. That's fairly typical for prices over the past year or so - I've seen as low as $239 for 1000. This is for 9mm ammo like Blazer Brass, MagTech, S&B, Remington, etc. I don't think...

What would "SMG .30 Cal." have been in the Vietnam era?

The M2 (selective fire variant of the M1).

Whats the worst thing youve left/lost at the range?

And its not range-related, but there must be hundreds of cases of police officers handing their pistol up on the hook on the back of the stall door. And then leaving the pistol there when they are done. The belt, I guess, is heavy enough to make it hard to discern that the pistol is gone. But...
