The instructions that came with mine said I may have to relieve some material behind the safety lever for proper function. before the relieving mine also worked that way. Actually the rifle has a two position safety. After relieving the stock it returned to proper function.

My guess is too much initial pressure and the bullet blew through the rifling without imparting any spin, and the only way to prove it was the soft recovery.

I have both, a Bullberry in 7.62 x 39 and a MGM in 357 mag. Both are very accurate barrels. To me, the Bullberry has a deeper blue finish. That is the only difference I see.
