    My Carry Routine

I knew because I sprayed them before or was present when another officer did.

    My Carry Routine

I found that the threat of getting a dose of OC was pretty effective on people who had been sprayed before. I had a couple regular customers stop verbally resisting and become compliant when I reached for my OC.

    Not Quite a Convert But...

All of the people in this thread who have had formal training in the use of OC and have used it on the street raise your hand. There are good reasons why one doesn’t want to use it in their home: 1. It doesn’t work on everyone. 2. Even if you are trained with it there is a good...

    Not Quite a Convert But...

You aren't seriously suggesting one uses this inside their home, are you? You risk making the room uninhabitable for a while. I hated transporting a suspect who had been sprayed with OC in my squad. I can only imagine what cleaning it out of a carpet or other porous surfaces would be like.

    The Knock-Out Game

You can't trust any crime statistics. Agencies are not mandated to make UCR input and there is no audit process. The politicians skew UCR input so their city doesn't look too bad. I wouldn't say those stats are useless but they are not in any way, shape or form a good representation of the...

    Things to Not Do

The problem is that she could easily have been shot if she pointed her gun at an armed citizen or off duty officer. We don’t know what this incident actually looked like and I can easily envision the man thinking an emotionally disturbed woman was about to shoot him and respond accordingly.

Ok, you'd choose the four walls and a door, You will be sleeping maybe 10 feet from that door. Door is locked with the security latch engaged. It's not the same as being in your home where the break in is going to trigger an alarm and your deadbolts and properly hung doors with screws into...

    Things to Not Do

Before we start judging a decision someone makes we need to look at the totality of the circumstances that caused that decision to be made. Gordon posted that he was working in a rural area, had a lot of cash the company needed to make payroll and was staying in a seedy motel (I'm sure because...

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

You have to look at the complete incident to make any kind of judgement of the actions of those involved. The carjacker had obviously not disengaged or he wouldn’t have deliberately run the victim down. I’m sure that he will attempt to deny that he deliberately ran the victim down despite the...

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

He paid the price because he reacted emotionally and completely lost situational awareness. It was stupid to fire into the vehicle and he when that failed he should have immediately gotten out of the area. You simply can't dismiss the fact that he used deadly force when it wasn't appropriate...

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

Either way, shooting into the truck was STUPID. We can argue all day about if he would have been run down regardless if he hadn't fired. The fact is that he DID in fact fire on the carjacker. He acted on emotion and he paid the ultimate price.

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

You don't think the carjacker might have decided to run him down in retaliation for being shot at? The video I saw showed him running right in front of the truck.

Man killed attempting to stop a carjacking

Stopping a vehicle with a handgun usually only works in the movies where it's written into the script. This is going to strike many people as cold but the "good Samaritan" is dead because he made several poor decisions while acting emotionally. The first was trying to stop the carjacking by...

    Things to Not Do

If there were no other people around where did the witnesses to the incident come from? Didn’t you just say it would have been different if other people were around? Where did this witness come from? So it’s acceptable to point a gun and threaten deadly force if you are surprised in a parking...

    Things to Not Do

So we're going back to blaming the victim? I suppose you also would agree that women shouldn't dress provocatively so they aren't seen as inviting a sexual assault? Apparently before internet dating men and women met each other in places like supermarkets. It still happens all the time in the...
