    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

Loaded 200 without a problem tonight. Hopefully it stays that way.

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

Went through the last 30 cal can of 223 I loaded and found 6 of these buggers! Varied head stamp. I reset the bullet seating die and backed off the crimp die. I'm going to bust out a few hundred rounds and keep a closer eye on it. I am fortunate to have access to machine guns every now and...

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

I'm seating in one die and using the Lee factory crimp in the next. I just think it's kind of odd I haven't touched these dies in about 3000 rounds and just now I'm seeing an issue. I'll reset them tonight.

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

Talking to a very experienced reloader who I work with, he thinks this is due to thicker than normal brass cases, since I haven't seen this issue till now with no die adjustments, and that I should consider using a small base die to mitigate eliminate this issue. He used to see this issue...

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

Unsure, but it is Wolf Gold 223 I picked up at a carbine class back in the spring, and being new ammo to the market I assume once fired. I did not touch the forward assist. I have a Dillon case gauge and may have to start dropping every round into it during my final inspection, I've always...

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

Outstanding, thanks a ton. I will revisit my dies tomorrow. I can't believe this didn't show up until i had loaded thousands.

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

It appeared normal to me before chambering. I visually inspect every round I make. On another thread someone is accusing my seating die but has yet to make a thorough explanation. This is interesting...

    223 rolled shoulder when chambering

Not sure how else to describe this... This happened today, in my 16" barrel AR. The same thing happened in my 11.5" suppressed AR. They look identical. Both times the action was frozen out of battery and I had to "mortar" the rifle to open it (grab charging handle, slam stock against...

Dillon 650 Bulk Reloading Mixed 556/223

Got my extra 650 toolhead and set up the deprime and full length sizing die in stage 1 and the trimmer in stage 4. I setup the trimmer in stage 3 and got it dialed in perfect then I realized that I couldn't pull the pin to remove the toolhead because it would hit the trimmer body, DOH! So I...

    Hornady Aerosol Case Lube

Well I loaded and touched off 2000 rounds of 223 with some lube in the case mouth and not a single failure so the negative impact must be negligible. I don't see a need to waste lube on my pistol cases either. Last night I tried the lube in a bag method and it worked fine. I'll keep at that for...

    Hornady Aerosol Case Lube

I might have to try that home made lube. I assume it is also safe for powder and I don't need to remove it before reloading?

Loading mixed 223 and 5.56 brass together

In my other thread about bulk reloading on my Dillon 650 for practice ammo I had this question that I thought should have it's own thread. I have no interest in sorting brass unless I have to. I've heard some people say I need to separate my 556 and 223 brass, which I have done so far just...

    Hornady Aerosol Case Lube

Thanks for the info everyone. I will try a different way of applying lube. I did see some very small dents in the shoulders when sizing.

    Hornady Aerosol Case Lube

I'm loading 5.56 with the case lube. I bought carbide dies for 9mm so I don't lube them. Those are the only two calibers I'm loading so far. I feel like I'm not getting enough lube on my rifle cases sometimes. I stand a few hundred up on a box and mist them from all four sides. Not a direct...
