For what it's worth, I've got this problem with my Mk II as well. I've filed the mags down and now it happens less, particularly with CCI Mini-Mags, its preferred feed. Probably if I hit the mags just a bit more it would disappear entirely.
It's rather annoying that Ruger doesn't adress this...
You -may-, depending on shipping, be able to do better on a cost-per-round basis with MFS ammo, from aim surplus. It's $90/600, but that doesn't include shipping. It's also brass cased, boxer primed, and generally fine stuff in my experience... :)
I'll 2nd (well, nth, really) the paper plates. For serious shooting they're pretty much all I use--though I do splurge a little and go for the orange sticky target dots. ;)
I don't have a license as of yet (I spend almost my entire day either in a car or in one of several government buildings), but it is my recollection that the weapon has to be -holstered- in plain sight. Dangling from your neck would not be a good idea.
Yup, that's me too, more or less. Had never shot a gun until a friend of mine took me to the range to try his P220; from there, I was hooked. Bought a Ruger Mk II the next day, and now I have a steadily growing collection of milsurp rifles...
Yup. It actually -tells- you to dry fire it several places in the manual, including (if I recall correctly) the field-strip procedure. Just make sure that pin is in place (and not broken, of course) and you should be fine.
There are, if I recall, some local ordinances in the cities. Take a look at the 'assault weapons' section at http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/StateLaws.aspx?ST=OH for the details, or at least some of them.
I'll second grease, although as a post elsewhere would suggest, I'm a bit grease-obsessed at the moment. :D For most everything else, I've been using Ballistol--it's stinky, but at least it doesn't give me a headache like BreakFree did.
There's a lot of stuff you just won't be able to find in the major surplussers' inventories, because it's all already been imported and sold. We are, quite sadly (especially for a fellow like me who got started late!) at the tail end of the golden age of the milsurp--the rifles that would be...
Hmmm. This rather reminds me of a fellow I knew who'd marked some rooms on a gaming map with 'MT'.
We were all rather confused... until we started to notice that all those rooms were... empty... :D
Sorry if this's ever been posted on before--the search seems to be 'disabled by the administrator' at the moment. During a trip to the range today I noticed that the rear sight on my Ruger Mk II seemed... well, a bit off center. It'd been a while since I'd shot this particular pistol, so I...
You might try calling AIM up and asking them where it's likely to be. Since they have to log serials as well, they ought to have an idea of where to look on their current crop.
Thanks for the replies guys. :) As I'm not a hunter (or soldier!) the dirt issue is not as much of a concern, though I will remember to keep a particular eye out for any grittiness. For the basic powder and other dirt that will show up, it seems that a judiciously applied amount of grease should...
