200 LSWC Woes - Failure to Fit

I had a similar problem with Oregon 200swc. Shaved lead pushed up and kept the case mouth from touching. I had to file and scrape the lead from the case mouth. After, I fixed the problem with more bell. I did the same switch from 230grFMJ to Oregon 200swc and did not adjust the bell enough. Just...

    Military crimp cleaning options?

60 degree single flute Countersink, 45 degree removes to much material from the base face. Chuck it in a hand drill clamped to the work bench, holding the brass give it a quick push on the countersink. Probably do a 1000 or more an hour.

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

Yes Sommerled that is the problem. See post #11. Once I saw the case tilting when I tried to prime I realized all the pushing on the handle would not seat a primer. If the instructions had us check the timing first most of these high priming issues would not exist. When the primer punch makes...

New reloader taking baby steps and have questions

Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos or Magtech. You may have some out of spec brass or the shell holder. You may find a different shell holder will work on that brass. Give up on them for now, load the cases that fit, go to the range, then smile.

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

Otto, I knew from speaking with Hornday techs sending my press back was a waste of effort. If the primer punch is not perfectly parallel with the primer pocket you lose all mechanical advantage. An easy check is start the priming process slowly and see if your case is tilting, if so then you...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

With all due respect to the techs at Hornady they did their best over the phone to help and sent me stuff that did nothing to fix the problem. You should be able to seat any brand of primer with ease since I now can. If the plunger has already made a hole in the casting adjusting the timing...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

My LNL had the same problem. Everything suggested I tried with no luck. To see if your plunger is extending enough just place a case in the priming position (without primers) and push the arm back, now try and move the case, is the plunger up into the case primer cavity, if yes then the problem...

    Unique not dispensing uniformly

I remove the pistol rotor and use the rifle rotor for Unique. I found the small diameter on the pistol rotor to sometimes bridge and not drop anywhere near the correct setting. Slightly harder to adjust but it always repeats.

    LNL Ez-ject problem

I filed mine right where you have it outlined. I filed the other side where the spring comes out of the dip to ease the transition. I have an older LNL with the wire but I found the spring was binding because the shoulder was to square. If you are smooth with the stroke you really do not need...

Talk to me about Clays Powder

I toss 45ACP 200gr SWC precision black bullets with 4.2gr Clays @1.250 OAL with much pleasure in a 1911. First time I have heard about metering problems with Clays, I will monitor closer then ever though.

    Too much crimp??

1858, the easiest way I have found (since bullet sizes vary especially lead) is to mike the case, after pressing in the bullet, at the bulge near the bullet base, then taper crimp to that size, or a couple of tenths less (.0002). I hold it up to the light with the micrometer over the case mouth...

    Too much crimp??

Vjay, I can see in the picture what appears to be a groove in the bullet usually associated with a roll crimp, maybe the source of confusion. They may look a little weird when you crimp them to the correct size, the size rcmodel gave you in post #20.

    Trimming brass

If the pilot fits when the case is not locked in the trimmer, then probably you are off center when you tighten the case. With the case loose run the pilot in the case and rotate the cutter backwards gently as you tighten the case. It will now be concentric. You will not dull the cutter on brass...

    Are we crying wolf

Lou Dobbs last night said the Mexican government is not releasing the serial numbers of captured firearms. Therefore, we have to take the word of the Mexican government these firearms came from the USA. If the cartels were purchasing grenades and explosives, why would they go through the trouble...
