I switched mine from cured to flat because the flat looks cool. I can do plenty good work with either.

I have both steel and polymer. No issues with either. Steel are way cooler.

My guess is because it solves the issue of no sights when using a can on the gun. Notice these guns have threaded barrels. For that use case scenario, it is a great idea. I don't have any suppressors so it isn't for me, but I get the problem that the red dot sight solves on this specific gun.
