Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

If you find a spot please let me know, I'm down the road in Kansas. :D I've been traveling to Texas for my efforts. Works pretty good since I travel there on business anyway, can mix the two.

I swear, he almost looks like a warthog in that pic.

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

I'm headed out to the range this morning to sight in the 458 Socom (Flint inspired me) for a hog hunt next weekend in NE Texas. Friend's property. I was in the area last week, pretty chilly. Good news for skeeters, the state bird, I guess. :) Is there anything different about hog behavior...

Keltecs new 14 shot bullpup shotgun (neostead revived!)

Pretty damned expensive for a Keltec. At least according to Davidson's: https://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/default.aspx?item=KSG

Okay, I have just got to ask. Flint, what do you shoot with a 100 grain bullet in a .458 Socom? Varmints?

That is incredibly impressive. Simply incredible. I wouldn't know where to start to do something like this. But your point is good. Feral hogs don't need artistry, they just need killing. This thread and my own recent hog hunt in Texas have taught me that.

I'm thinking the fall will be better too. Nice to hear your thoughts agree. We both drove. Its a little over 800 miles from Kansas and anything less than 1000 miles I drive nowadays. My brother lives in Houston area so it was a short trip for him. :) Looking forward to this fall.

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

Thanks for the link. I am planning another trip this fall when it gets a little cooler. :) I will definitely take a look because I will need something better. 100 yards is plenty for illumination I think. The hogs I saw (barely) from the blind were no farther than that. I just couldn't see...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

Couple of pics. The hog in the left pic was taken by my .308. The cartridge was a Federal JHP with 150 grain Barnes TSX bullet. The hog was quartering away from me when I took the shot. Hard to see in the picture but the bullet entered the left side just aft of the ribcage and angled...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

I returned from my hog bunting trip to Texas this week. I did enjoy it, thanks. Some of my observations below. More experienced hog hunters feel free to comment. This was on a ranch near San Antonio. Not surprisingly during the hotter part of the day the hogs go to ground. If you are...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

I'd be happy to post some pics as long as Flint doesn't mind. Wouldn't want to hijack an excellent thread though it is on topic, sort of.

I am going to pick up some Barnes TSX for the trip. I was pretty impressed with the results from your pictures above. Yes it does, and yes we are planning a couple of night hunts. Its a ranch not too far from San Antonio. Thanks Flint. I am certainly looking forward to it. Appreciate the...
