You might look for a good used S&W model 66. Yeah it may be 30+ years old but it was made well and will still rock on. They also hold their value well. Mine was an old police trade in. Stainless with no real holster wear. Adjustable rear sights. It is about as sweet as my three screw model...
You can probably pick up a nice stainless S&W model 66 4" barrel in .357 for less than $500. Don't forget to look at Dan Wesson as well. They made excellent revolvers and you can change the barrels to suit your mood.
I have used that bullet in an 1903A3 for deer, wild hog, and javalina.
In every case it did what it was supposed to do. Ranges from < 50 yards to about 100 yards.

If you are shooting indoors with a flash bounce the flash off the ceiling and somewhat behind you....that turns the sharp flash into big diffused light...same as if you were shooting outdoors in overcast weather. Big soft diffused light.
yep the Dan's are under appreciated.
I've got the pistol pack in 22 with a second cylinder and crane for .22mag.
Then I've got a 357 and 44mag with several barrels for each.
and the dan wesson forum previously mentioned is a good place too. Lot's of good info.
