Yep, spring and lube. Be careful with the DW's when breaking them in. If not properly lubed these Stainless steel guns can develop galling issues. FP-10 lube works real well to prevent this. Lube the snot outa the rails.
I second JimKirk, when I had my P3AT I did extensive ballistic testing of my own with several different loads. That Corbon DPX with the solid copper bullet was the only one I had any faith in, good 1000+ velocity and those solid copper bullets penetrate much farther than a comparable lead core...
Sounds about right, most plinking 45colt loads are in the 800fps range with a longer barrel, 650 is probably about as good as it gets for that short a barrel unless you think your gun can handle "ruger" loads through it.
I recently got a Les Baer Custom Concept III from a guy on here and I'm in love, awesome gun. See why people pay a premium for a semi-custom 1911. Just got a DW CBOB as well, haven't shot it but if it shoots as good as it looks I'll have another keeper.
Doubletap has a 230gr HP Gold Dot load that clocks 1014fps. Been using for carry ammo for awhile now. Supposedly it's not a +P loading either. It definetly feels warm but I always get good expansion out of that 230gr GD.
Nope, sometimes I feel like being a crack addict would be a cheaper habit! Best I can tell you is to become good with the guns you already have before jumping off into something else. It'll save you some money down the road.
The all-steel witness ain't light, it will soak up the recoil just fine. With full power 10mm loads it will SOUND like a cannon though. +1 on going to a heavier 22lb recoil spring if shooting full power 10's. It will still zing brass into the next county.:)
As others have said, if you can pay a little more for the Witness Match. Heck of a deal for sub $500, the fancy case it comes in is worth a $100 more by itself.:D
Ruger's .454 six shooter is more than strong enough, as I recall they proof test the loads at 90,000psi, the .454's max saami pressure a "puny" 65,000psi ain't gonna hurt that gun. Heard of issues in the Taurus's though. I don't deny that the 460 has more oompth but it ain't by much unless...
