    Fresh meat!

Nice, I shot the first deer of my life at the age of 11, using a single shot 20 gauge Iver Johnston Champion shotgun, it also was a doe.

Hunting - Where's your Shot Going?

The last buck (white tail) I shot, and he went down "like a ton of lead had just hit him" I never even hit the heart, but destroyed the liver, and it exited the upper backside taking the ribs with it. That was only a 129grain Whitetail Winchester factory round in the 6.5 Creedmoor. One other...

    Deer processing issues

That 10 pointer I shot on opening morning, ended up costing me $240.00 to have it processed at the local butcher, however $120.00 was to have a dozen sausages @ $10.00 each made other than that, the total would have been $120.00 just for steaks, chops, and roasts. I know that is terrible, as my...

Who said the 6.5 Creedmoor was the Bare Minimum for Deer

LocoGringo, I agree whole heartedly with ya on that the author ain't all there. After reading it I took my newly purchased Creedmoor out to the range and test fired it and was surprised at the lack of recoil, of course I also had a recoil/flash suppressor attached to the already threaded barrel...

Who said the 6.5 Creedmoor was the Bare Minimum for Deer

The main reason I started my thread, I had read somewhere he that the 6.5 CM was not a good deer cartridge as it was under powered, even though I had bought mine just previous to reading about it here recently.

I do know that the 6.5 CM is an awesome round at least for white tail deer, thanks to my early morning excursion.

    Bad night bowhunting

The last time I hunted deer with a bow, was quite a few years ago, (20+ years) and it was a Bear Compound, shot a good sized buck at about 30 yards or so, watched him flick his ears, and off he went back into the brush at a very slow pace. I sat in the blind for about 15-20 minutes that seemed...

    Hunting Ammo Poll

I've got a bunch of reloads that I'm very confident with, for my 270, as I've harvested quite a few mule deer as well as a couple of elk. But this is the first year I've hunted White Tail deer in MO. with my eldest son, and the fact I've just purchased the 6.5CM in Ruger, and although I've shot...

Capn Mac I do appreciate your instructions also, however I'm not too computer savvy.

JM40 I thank ya for the info on taking a photo with the regular camera and placing it on my computer, anyway, here are two of the photos. Sorry that is the best I could do, next time I'll take the camera with me. BTW those photo's are shortly after the kill, and after the field dressing, the...

Keeping Older Hunters Interested. How can it be done?

Well this year is the first year I hunted deer in about 5-6 years, thanks entirely to my oldest son who prepared me for the hunt of a lifetime as I'm 74, and not in the best of health any more. We stayed in his trailer he had parked on his property ( quite a while ago) the night before the hunt...

Who said the 6.5 Creedmoor was the Bare Minimum for Deer

Well yesterday was the opening season for whitetail deer, in MO., and within the first 30 minutes of the season, I scored a 10 point buck, using my (above) rifle. Now that spread wasn't any trophy animal, nor was his weight, estimated at 150-160#'s and I'd say about 2-3 years old. But when I hit...

    Crimp or No Crimp?

I've just finished reloading some 6.5X52 Carcano rounds using a round nose 160 grain Hornady bullet SP. The reason I ended up crimping the bullet is because after reloading with just the neck crimp, I ran some thru my Carcano Cavalry Carbine and had a bullet sink in the neck of the casing. To...

    Texan or Herters

Texan for sure, had some back in the mid 60's, and they were definitely premium quality.
