Looking for a Quote (25 automatic)

It was Jeff Cooper. The full quote (as close as I can get from memory anyway) goes: By all means carry a .25 if it makes you feel better, but under no circumstances should you load it, because if you load it you may shoot someone with it, and if you shoot someone with it, and they realize...

Need help with a Mosin Nagant

I have a 91/30, no experience with the m38, m44 or Finns, but here's what I've found: I don't find the recoil to be excessive on my 91/30. It's not a .22, but no worse than any other full-power centerfire rifle. I put a folded up towel under my shirt if I'm not wearing a jacket, with a...

    Stacking rifles

I can only speak of my experience as a Civil War reenactor, but we stacked our muskets while in ranks. We'd then break ranks and do whatever, when it was time to unstack we'd get back in ranks and unstack. Since unstacking was done the reverse of stacking, if you were in the right place in...

New Yorkers rally for 'illegal' guns

Some years ago then-mayor David Dinkins had the Brady's in to push the Brady Bill, and the local NRA chapter scheduled a protest. I was one of four people who showed up. Four. Good to see some folks are actually showing up now.

    91/30 zeroing

If I recall correctly, Mosins generally shoot WAY high at 100 yards/meters because they're sighted in for either 200 or 300 meters. Some people replace the front post with a taller one or add a bit of tubing to it to get it on target at 100 yards.

As if you need a reason to stay away from NYC

benEzra, Actually that's not applicable, these people consented to the search. You can refuse (as I plan to do if I'm ever asked, just on general principles). My annoyance with this program is two-fold, one is the people who say "If you've got nothing to hide you've got nothing to worry...

As if you need a reason to stay away from NYC

OK folks, here's a first-hand account, I live in NJ, work in NYC and ride the subways five days a week. I've seen the bag searches although never been searched myself. These searches accomplish nothing, nada, zip, zero. You can refuse and exit the station. They won't force you to be...

    new york AWB

New York City also has its own AWB, which at least WAS much more draconian than the Federal ban. People had to cut the bayonet lugs off their Garands to make them legal, and I heard that someone decided that the 1903 Springfield (bolt action) rifle was an AW because of the bayonet lug. I've...

    NYC laws

This information is a few years old and may be stale, but here's what I recall of the firearms license (the license where the city gives you permission to own long-arms). I never bothered, although I had a target pistol license. You had to apply, in person, in Queens. When you got the...

    Mosin-Nagant M91/30 Advice needed

Mosins are great rifles, and most of them are in pretty good shape as well. After WW II they were basically brought back to spec, dunked in cosmoline, and stuck in a warehouse. The USSR probably planned on giving them to the first line of peasants/cannon fodder if the cold war ever turned hot...

    Carry in NYC

I had a target license in NYC when I lived there, and I had to jump thru plenty of hoops to get that. A carry license was out of the question unless (a) you owned a business with lots of cash involved (b) you were a cop or former cop. Those were the official reasons anyway, but I've heard that...

    US Arms Revolver

A friend of mine inherited an old 38 revolver by a company called US Arms. From his description (I haven't seen it yet) it's a break-top, bobbed hammer, five shot revolver. Has anyone heard of this brand? Know anything about it?

Best places to shoot in NJ ?

Lou, Care to fill me in on the public ranges in NJ? I've been looking for one that wasn't a private club I'd have to join. There used to be one down by Englishtown, but I don't know if it's still there.

Did anyone see House last night?

My question at the time was why bother plugging someone's dead relative to see what would happen? Couldn't you tell the same thing (less dramatically) with the bullet and a magnet?
