ArmiSport 1853 Enfield musket bullet size

That's pretty consistent - my father and I use 45 grains of Goex 3F. I'll probably go to Swiss when my stock of Goex runs out (I'm flush with Swiss).

    Misfire/hang fire time

With a muzzle loader? Control the muzzle and address the problem immediately. The danger of a hangfire is opening the gun...right when the cartridge goes off. No containment of the pressure = Bad Things Happening, usually right in your face. With a muzzle-loading firearm, there IS no opening...

    Flintlock pan polishing.

I use Null B for priming. My preferred method is a thin layer over the entire pan...make sure that the first spark hits powder, not bare steel.

ArmiSport 1853 Enfield musket bullet size

The N-SSA rule of thumb for a rifle-musket is 45 grains of 3F. Then work up and down from there.

Top loads using black powder in modern large caliber revolvers

Elmer Keith, in "Sixguns", recommended that a starting reloader use BP. Precisely because it was impossible to overload a cartridge with it.

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

2nd place, Flintlock pistol, 1979 MD State NMLRA Championships.

    I finally shot a S&W 52-2. WOW! :)

The Model 52s are known for outstanding triggers. They'd have been more popular if a third of the NRA Bullseye Pistol course of fire didn't require the .45.

Maryland laws on short barrel rifles

Ohen is right. A centerfire SBR has to be 29 inches overall...with the stock extended. For an AR-based SBR, this works out to about an 11-inch barrel. I will say that the Maryland State Police has been decent about the whole arm brace business - they are considering a braced pistol to be a...

Shooting a replica Japanese ‘Tanegashima’ snap matchlock

For shooting a matchlock, long sleeves and glasses are a must. A big floppy hat is recommended.

Shooting a replica Japanese ‘Tanegashima’ snap matchlock

Matchlock is an experience to shoot. Handling the match, especially on the range, is tricky - but coping with a failure to fire is the real headache.

Where do you buy your black powder?

I shoot in the N-SSA...at Fort Shenandoah. The biggest distributor of BP on the East Coast is on our exit road.

    Beretta 84f Value

Your best bet would be to look at completed GunBroker auctions. That being said, Beretta 84s aren't that scarce at the moment, due to the importation of a large number from Italy last year.

Who should be the next NRA leader?

Remember, the Executive Vice President is basically a CEO position. Administrative expertise is essential. And yes, I'm available. Though my administrative portfolio is thin. I support a much smaller Board of Directors, review and revision of the contracts the NRA has, and reconciliation...

    Too many Guns?

Here's how I look at it. My firearms break down into the following groups: 1. Competition guns. I shoot on the U.S. International Muzzle-Loading Team and the North-South Skirmish Association. Dabble in ISSF pistol and NRA Bullseye on occasion, but the muzzle-loaders are the primary interest...

    Too many Guns?

Someone with only one safe is a piker with a penny-ante collection. I’ve got two vaults, need a third.
