    Winchester model 12--safe to shoot?

MEHavey: Do you consider your 1924 gun safe with the more powerful 2 3/4" loadings? Double ought buck, etc. It appears that Wrights or Simmons are the people to choose for quality work on the model 12. May send mine off, probably to Wrights. model86

    Browning BLR

Few years ago I had a Browning BLR in .308 Win. Lots of positive things about this gun such as light weight, short lever throw, short and handy and fast repeat shots. The two reasons I sold it were: It would jam when cycling very fast Didn't like the flat-sided fore stock Wondering how some...

Best Caliber? Modest Recoil for Antelope at 300/400 yards

The .243 Winchester is hard to beat. Where some go wrong with it is using the wrong bullet for the game hunted. Get the right load/bullet for it and it's about as good of a multi-purpose cartridge as there is. Bullet construction/bullet placement counts the most. model86

Browning x-bolts and a-bolts vs. other bolt guns

I have two Browning A-Bolts and one X-Bolt. I have not used any of them much. Wondering if any of you have experienced problems with these guns? We've all heard about the reliability of the old pre-64 Model 70 Winchesters and Mausers with controlled feed. I've never heard anything bad about...

    Winchester model 12--safe to shoot?

MEHavey: I've read that 1927 was when they went from 2 1/2" chamber to 2 3/4". There are several sources on internet to determine the year of manufacturer of your gun by submitting serial number. Mine made in 1923. model86

    The Perfect Rifle

jmr40 I'd forgotten about the new trigger. How is it, specifically, less reliable than the pre-64 type? I will say I could do without a magazine floor plate. Weakens the gun in that area. Remington model 700 ADL, which has no floor plate, could be next on my buy list. Had one of these...

    The Perfect Rifle

Some would argue there is no truly perfect gun of any kind. Well...when I think about it I've never had a gun that was perfect from the factory but I've had several that were close. The one I'll mention here is the current Winchester Safari Express chambered for the 375 H&H cartridge. I do...

    Winchester model 12--safe to shoot?

I recently bought an old Winchester model 12 chambered for 12 gauge shells. This one has Nickle Steel barrel with no shell length mentioned on barrel. Serial # indicates it was made in the 20's and chambered originally for either 2 9/16" or 2 1/2" shells. Someone has reamed the chamber since...

    Ruger Mini-30 denting casings

Recently mounted a scope on my Mini-30 and used Ruger rings lower than what came with the gun. My question is: Are these lower rings the cause of dings on my fired casings or does this gun put dings in the casings even without a scope mounted? I now have this scope mounted using the...

    The most expensive gun

Seen a post here about expensive guns and got me to wondering about THE most expensive gun. I can think of two types of most expensive guns. 1. Those of historical value 2. Those brand new For the historical gun I believe a double barreled side/side rifle used by Teddy Roosevelt on...

Welcome suggestions regarding reliable load for 7.62x39 cartridge. 123-125 gr bullet Clean burning powder Gun: Ruger Mini-30 This gun and cartridge are new to me and after many guns I'm thinking this combo could become one of my favorites. 86

What is the most cherished gun in you collection

Browning model 1886 Carbine, 45-70. Had maybe 150 different guns over the past 55 years and this Browning is clearly number 1. It's nearly perfect--to me. Only improvements I can think of are fiber optic front sight and some wood taken off of the stock--especially the forestock. Hence, my...

Walker's Game Ear and the like

Hi everyone. New to this group and glad to be here. I've looked at many posts here as a non-member in the past so I know I'm in good company. The Walker Game Ear--and other products of this type. Is Walker the best brand? I'm concerned about excess wind noise with these...
